We speak, rightly, of India regaining its place in the world economy and recouping its historic share of global trade. There’s another momentous fact we need to recognize: We have it now in our capacity to end poverty in our country, to address basic requirements of our citizen’s welfare, and to reduce their exposure to new risks. We have it in our power, and haven’t done it—and we need to. The imperative is not just a moral one, concerning the obligation we have to the social welfare of our poor. It’s a political imperative: necessary to keep our nation holding together during this bewildering transition from poor country to significant world power. |

Hi Rashmi, Social democracy is not new for India. The age of Social democracy is now 60 years, as India is already a social democracy by the constitutional provisions since the yar 1950. Of course the constitutional social democracy has no place for economically poor class. According to the Constitution of India, Indian Social democracy embraces the concept of religions and castes and not economics of the poor. What economic growth rate shows is the growth rate of a handful of wealthy people becoming wealthier and wealthiest. With the concept of religion and castes driven social democracy, which forms the largst numer pf poor classes, the policy of the politicians remains the same as that of the British Rulers, "DIVIDE & RULE" by dangling carrot of caste-based reservations, so that the poor should not think above the racial concept and remain poor or get even poorer by keeping themselves engaged in the struggle of grabbing economic survival seats (employment and education) of one another. Nobody thinks about the economic uplift or the economic growth rate of the poor. So, it is useless to bring any such idea unless constitutional amendment is not thought to be made to provide economical social angle in the social democracy in preference to merely the religions and castes. |

Dear Rashmi, Your idea, "State-sponsored scheme of universal cash payment to all citizens" and the explanation below that does not match with each other. In fact the text in support of your idea missed proper explanation of the idea, what that idea is and how that can be implemened?
Dear Prashanta,
The so called "Babus" not only make rules for regulation of system, but also interpret them the way they like. They think, they are the rule makers, so they are exempt from the provisions of rules. These people usually boast, "Show me the person, I show you the Rule," which means if they have to favor you they will interpret the rule in your favor and if they don't want to favor you, they will interpret the same rule against you.
These Babus also usually say, "Rules are, but for the fools." That means the rules are thee but not for themselves, only for the others whom they consider fools.
In fact they need not find loopholes in the system, as loopholes always persist in the rules, as made just with limited thinking power of a particular person, who maks the particular set of rules. Since an ordinary man respects the system in the name of the law of the land, rules and regulations these lacunae do not come before the higher authorities and they think the system is working well. It is only when some one challenges the negative side of the rules and regulations through litigations or throuh media, that comes to the notice not only of the public, but also before the opposition and Government. But, still the ruling party, whosoever it is, tries to defend that bad system, as that gives bad name to the government run by them.
In other words, the rules are made like a batten to beat an ordinary man like a beast, who is not influential and doesn't have any approach to them.
Hi Sudershan Rao,
Any party forming Government necessarily gets involved in the vote bank policy. Until and unless the policy makers think beyond the vote bank policy, corruption, nepotism and favoritism cannot be eliminated. In fact, besides necessary amendment in the constitution, the lecion laws also need drastic changes. Only then golden era can usher in India leading towards the real socialism.

Most of the students would not have a career with a decent-sized company that would keep them busy for the rest of their lives. These days, the odds are pretty good that many students will at least have a side business at some point in their lives, if not run their own business full-time......
So, why to invest on education which is only meant for few......
An entrepreneurship practice workshop simply makes sense as a way to prepare students for running their own businesses...

I can vouch on that. It will create a difference.

All citizens of nation should have one slab IT i.e. only 10%...raise the portion of savings to all from 1.5 lacs to 3 lacs .....all the people are in 20 or 30% slab, are forced to hide their income which leads to blackmoney ....will be happy to show their real income and increase the revenue..also help in minimizing the corruption....
I am sure common platform of IT will help in reducing the gape between rich and poor..
Its a OUT OF THE BOX thinking....may be wrong

Cut down defence expenditure to the extent not involved in lavish maintenance of army/Navy/air defence personnel establishments. Each year Goverment budget increase in non plan expenditures other salaries and perks for honoured dignitiaries to pump in their world of scams and corruption.
Why not use this resource in Public education( quality of teachers and infrastructure) and health. Our so called "poor" tag will evaporate without even facy GDP growth numbersby sheer momentum educated healthy youth.

India as a nation is rich considering its GDP growth figures. We need not debate on this issue. Poor becoming poorer and rich becoming richer. The welfare face of the plans have to transform. They are proved to be spoon feeding and missing the constructive angle. People shall be empowered. The much touted, " Rural job guarantee scheme" is the smart example of how the welfare schemes of this land really empowering the people. Its built on primitive economics. Growth engine shall be technology and rural people shall be made partners in it. This is what China is doing. Why cant we adopt the model and gain. Think tanks of the country have to think on this.

I think it is one of the major problem...we are facing these days. we can see that the prices of home lands are increasing because we don't have any policy and law regarding how much land should be in the Hands of one single person. If our law and policy makers think upon it then we'll get good results and we all can (dream) for one single home for every one.................plz give me your reply

Definitely India is the second highest economic growth rate after china. Our economic growth rate is about 9 percent and our Industrilists at the top position in the world but the maximum people of India still poor. The gap between rich and poor increasingly everyday. Many people can not get a beat of meal. The corruption and lacking of professional education is the responsible for it. Our government unsucces in provides commodities to people.

India should involve the people in the development process not the sarkari babus, who are epitome of corruption, nepotism and favoritism. In some countries, if a road is to be laid in a particular area the material is supplied and the people residing in the area who will be using the road are asked to lay the road. Similarly the Indian government should take up things in this way instead of calling for tenders, employing contractors and so on. Every one knows what happens in this process.

While we spent our energy on development, we should also take care to identify the areas of development we need to focus on. Like for example the environment friendly developments will stand India in the good stead in the future. Or like India's investment in IT related technology in the early 80's helped us in this decade. We got to tap the right field of development.

Agriculture with Cow based input in soil will improve quality food and good for health and longivity.
|
|
there is a growing demand for organic foods driven primarily by the consumer's perceptions of the quality and safty of these foods and to the positive enviromental impact of organic agriculture practices. The interest in organic agriculture in developing countries is growing because it places more reliance on the natural and human resources available, requires less finacial input and provides safe food while conserving the environment.India with largest population of Cattle and small land holders farmers too will share GDP % increase in world's food demands.

why not have a currency distinctly different for those in governance. They get paid officially and they can't use the other currency for common peopleor vice versa.

SO called " Babus" make regulations system and find loop hole in the system to favour Politicians( their Boss) and to channelise fund from government to have black money generate. No more IAS exam or state run administrative cadre instead all government administartion must be run corporate governance with MBA s from reputed or Ranked institutes. Minister for HRD should reform this system .

as per the current situation of our country we need a robust change in our total system. most of the states are affected either with a politics crisis, war between politicians, internal terrorists or corruption. we need to change everything. some one commented that we should reduce the expenditure for army and arms. can you explain how? if we reduce our expenditure on those then who will counter our internal terrorists? who will save our country from our neighbors like pakistan and china???how will we be save?
assign a whole new team of qualified people (which is available in every state of india) to each and every phase of the system. terminate all corrupted unqualified personnel from the system. start qualification level for ministers also. where people are hungry not able to fulfill the needs of their family on that time some names of india spending lacks and corers of rupees to buy some product.why?
take a fully authorized step to clean the society at a time. clean the dirt. may be it will affect our ecconomy, our growth let it be...we have the capability of gaining it back..we have the man power, knowledge,money...change everything at a time...
i think its a waste discussing this things because no one is going to take initiate or will go for this....
so...
thanks for referring me this topic Ms. Rashmi patil.

After going through all the ideas, I think Mr. Dhingra is right. Until we change the constitution, and remove Caste, Religion, minority and Majority based identities things will continue as they are. Therefore, what is required is a complete relook into the constitution to remove these anomalies, compel the state to address to the basic issues which directly affects the nations infrastructure, safety, security of the people and an equal opportunity for all to have educational and health facilities through the state and not through PPP schemes, the scenario will only accentuate and we will have more Shiv Senas, Raj Thackreys, besides uprisings like Naxals, Maoists, Khalistanis and J&K Separatists.

I think education and health is essential for any countries progress.. If Indian govt should concentrate this two things then it will good for India.. As we know that for any good building we should make or design good foundation with use of good quality material. So if we talk about any country, education is its foundation and ppl's health is its good quality material..

When a country needs an idea for betterment, where else to start than at the top. The ruling elite needs a thorough revamp. Beauracracy has to be stamped out, babudom shown the door and politicians have to be made accountable. On the other hand judiciary has to be overhauled completely by abolishing all archaic laws which have no relevance today, beefing up the police in terms of compensation and equipment to overhaul their working methods and ensuring faster justice through more courts and recruitment of judges. All this can be done only if the government is serious and makes an effort by bringing in qualified and experienced professionals to run the country rather than depend on pan chewing, pot bellied politicians whose only aim is to make money for their own family.
