A new survey, research has come up saying too much of internet can turn teens to drug addict. I do not support this completely. I do not feel it is quite possible, But there are many other harmful effects. What are tehy ? What do you feel or have experinced about over usage of internet?

True social cut out

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

They tend to be more on networking sites and they miss the real social connection by being out. This is funny but true ..

I think self control is must for internet addiction. It's not good to take time for internet(for use of net only for chit chat) by avoding our daily work.

I support your idea, Omkar. Self control should be there for the internet usage. Thanks for referral, Sumitra.

Setting up a limited slot of time for browsing

idea posted by AMAN SHARMA Mechanical Professional
We all know that going overboard in anything is harmful for physical or mental health. Internet offers a infinite variety of content one can think off,in such case it's best to keep a time slot for it like 1/2 or 1 hour.If anyone not only teenagers ot youngsters keeps browsing for a long time, chances are you will end up wasting your time. The main symptom of addiction of anything is "When one's priorities are neglected at the cost of that thing".

There is no limit to internet usage

idea posted by K.R. Manish Mechanical Engineer [Mainetenance], NTPC
Internet usage is very much essential nowadays to keep track of changes, get facts, news, technical literature, movies, songs and what not. Also, social networking sites & e-mails offer a big advantage in minimising communication. There can never be any over usage nor addiction because of the incredibly large no: of options internet provides. Chatting & social networking hardly constitutes 10% of an average person's internet usage time. There are a lot many things to the internet than these. A person is not getting addicted to the net because he keeps on switching over things. A person watching TV / listening to the radio has far lesser options than an internet user. There is absolutely no problem of addiction. Social cut-outs are really a matter of personal choice. It is in no way connected to the internet usage. A person who wishes to maintain relationships will do so irrespective of whether he is a light or heavy internet user. If a person does not wish to maintain relationships, he will simply make excuses like busy, internet addiction, etc. Parents & teachers should learn to appreciate new means of learning like the internet rather than carry out a fault-finding exercise. The way web-pages are designed encourages the student to learn more from the net & less from monotonous books. Teachers should also promote the use of e-books over paper-bound volumes.

RSI syndrome

idea posted by S. Muralidharan Executive Director, Knowledge Foundation & Campus Around the Corner
The term ‘repetitive strain injury’ is often used as an umbrella term to describe a range of soft tissue conditions such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and writer’s cramp. It occurs when someone is engaged in an activity for a long period of time, for example, using a computer. There are two types of RSI which are: RSA Type 1 RSA Type 2 RSA Type 1 is used to classify a medical condition such as carpal tunnel syndrome. This is characterised by swelling or inflammation of the tendons within an upper part of the body such as the wrists. RSA Type 2 is used as a classification when a specific medical condition cannot be diagnosed. This version involves pain and discomfort but there are no visible symptoms. Causes of RSI Overuse is the most likely cause but there are others which include: Poor ergonomics (e.g. incorrect set up of your workstation) Bad posture Stress Cold temperatures Repetitive actions Any activity which is performed for long periods of time without a break or puts a strain on a part of the body will result in RSI. Signs to look for include: Tingling or pins and needles Cramping sensation Numbness Stiffness Unable to grip things properly Pain in the fingers, wrists, arms, shoulders or neck Burning feeling A delay in seeking treatment can mean a longer recovery.
