The impact we believe will be felt ( it already is being felt) not just by BPO firms but by any offshoring firm engaged in IT or process outsourcing. Number of specialized and smaller firms which will feel a deep impact of the slowdown and the unknowns in how the industry shapes up. The same will apply to specialized smaller IT firms.  How the firms change their growth projections for the year, How they are managing well during this crisis!!!

2 KPO stands on a different footing and BPO may get affected

Critical Scenario

idea posted by Paras Gupta Asst. Manager/Manager -(NonTechnical), Genpact
I could say that the employment scenario in the KPO-BPO industry is going through an extremely dull patch and this in turn will have an effect on the growth in this industry,Future hiring rate of BPOs will be far worse off as compared to the KPO firms. The BPO employment rate is projected to decline by 60% within a span of one year, i think it may continue for around six to nine months. But may be  in the long term, any other financial institution will fill up the space vacated by Lehman Brothers.

KPO stands on a different footing and BPO may get affected

I would say that the KPO sector stands on a different footing and it will never get affected and no question of feeling slowdown. Because, whatever the situation is, knowledge is to be respected and hired. One may need not have many skills and knowledge to complete an assignment from a client from the developed world in BPO industry, but, that is not the case with the KPO industry. Even the president elect barrack obama refers to the knowledge and encouraging the best talent to US and such is the power of knoweldge. If a deep analysis is done, the BPO may get affected in future in India and we may feel the heat, but, KPO will do well though sees some slowdown.

Yes girish ur right if the global stocks continue to decline, it will result in loss of jobs or planned layoffs for bottom 1-10% of employees anyway.
umesh,i am not wrong my point was to prove that our IT industry does not need to worry about the current economic downturn as "we have a strong knowledge base" and the established market players here which would not be affected. And it is all a...
