Hindus find a Ganges in New York!!

Our holy river Ganga is already polluted . Indian rituals include offering a lot to the river and only after the offerings the ritual is considerd complete. Even in New York Indians have found Ganges!! Jamaica Bay is considerd holy and the Indians have started treating it as Ganga, offering saris,coins , coconuts and a lot more. thus polluting a river in another continent as well. What all should we understand and keep the rivers pollution free. What are the other ways of doing good deeds instead of this?
