Avoid too many personal details

idea posted by Renne Sharma HR Analyst, ABC Consulting

Your resume has only a few seconds to gain the employer's attention. Today, most employers are flooded with resumes from eager job seekers. Therefore, to stand out from the crowd, your resume should be free of the common errors. Except from your full name, contact information, including email, phone number and address, you should avoid giving further personal detail in your resume. Information such as your age or anything about our family must be kept aside. It's you who is applying for a job position; you are what matters, not the history of your family.

A WELL-CRAFTED CV GRABS EMPLOYER'S ATTENTION RIGHT OFF THE BAT WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR INTERVIEW.  IRRELEVANT DETAILS IN CV WILL SIMPLY BE THROWN INTO THE SCRAP HEAP SINCE ITS A WASTE OF TIME READING UNNECESSARY DETAILS.

MOREOVER, I THINK, A CV SHOULD BE ATTACHED A COVERING LETTER, SO THAT EVEN IF A CANDIDATE FAILS TO WRITE AN IMPRESSIONABLE CV, HE/SHE WILL BE ABLE TO GET AN INTERVIEW CALL ATLEAST ON BASIS OF COVERING LETTER.

Interviewer not always have the required knowledge for the designation being recruited. For eg if the recruitment is for mkting position then the interviewer panel may consist of HR,Finance & Mkting people,so the CV which include mkting terms should be understood by HR and finance people. So better make it simple and clear.

Add your argument:

Highlight your strengths

One CV should be structured with proper heads to follow, should have the real meat of the candidate, should be reader friendly and impressive for the employer to read, CV should not induce for an interview call, It should confirm the job. Most important, make the interviewer read the CV completely, I see lot of the potential employer do not read the profile in full. It just goes to the file.

RESUMES DO NOT GET JOBS - PEOPLE GET JOBS

idea posted by Akhilesh S Joshi India Coordinator

One of the most key elements of success in a job search is the resume and the engineering resume can often be one of the more difficult documents to develop. The engineering resume is the engineering job seeker’s primary marketing document that sells the product – the skills and experience of the engineer. To be effective, an engineering resume must grab the attention of the reader in 35-45 seconds. A good engineering resume will extend that attention span to over a minute. A successful resume will prompt the reader to contact the job seeker. In effect, the success of the job search revolves around the effectiveness of the first step – the resume. No one knows your background and experience better than you. Most engineers can get the basics of their projects and experience down on paper in a sensible fashion. What most engineers who write their own resumes have difficulty with is making that sell to the reader.

1. Select the best organizational format.

2. Assume that your resume will be viewed on a computer screen rather than on a piece of paper.

3. Make absolutely sure your document is error free.

4. Find a balance between wordiness and lack of detail.

5. Think “accomplishments” rather than “job duties”.

6. Keep it positive.

Remember, resumes do not get jobs – people get jobs. Resumes get interviews.

A cv is a marketing tool of candidates.it should be short clear n simple but at the same time it should be able to stir the intrst of HR manager.CV should be like a trailer of a movie.it shld be able to generate intrst in HR manager so that he wants to see the whole movie.Rest depends on your performance on the D day.

Do not add more than two references

idea posted by Rahul Kumar Rai I.T Consultant, Bennett, Coleman & Co. (The Times Of India Group)
1 or 2 references are okay in the CV not more than that, references means there are some people who may take your guarantee if required alternatively they may be contacted to know about you. If we have more references in our resume it gives an impression to the recruiter that we do not have faith/confidence in our abilities.
