How about experimenting with a Steam Engine ???

Great Idea

Magnetic Train Will be better Option!

Water is cheap and abundantly available than any other fuel To run a vehicle entirely on battery would require hughe capacity of battery and lots of power to re-charge it, while my experiment requires a less capacity battery to boil the water and the steam would run the engine It is difficult handling with Hydrogen energy, since there is apprehension that engine could explode, storing hydrogen energy is a big issue since it is highly flamable, etc etc .... |

Mr,Nayan has asked some good questions and it would be great if anyone can throw light on that.
Dear Nayan,
Nice to hear from you, I could not able to post my argument through TOO Step I am receiving an error while posting, though i am a Mechanical Engineering student i had left the subject 13 years back and currently in software management
let say we have a tank capacity of 25 lts capacity to hold the water, then form this tank the water would be moved to a seprate chamber or a boiler of say 3 to 4 lts capacity to produce steam, the power supplied to boiler is from battery(boiling whole 25 lts at a time would be time consuming to heat and produce steam for such capacity)the high pressure steam would then be a passed to a separate chamber where the steam is compressed to produce high pressure energy to move the four stroke or two stroke piston engines (not the turbines) to further transform the heat energy to Mechanical energy which would drive the wheels and also recharge the battery at the same time
The million dollar question is would the high pressure expanded steam would be able to produce the require Mechanical energy
Deb Nayans's reply was
It would depend on the Engine's efficiency, compression ratio of the engine (whether its a petrol or as deisel Engine) and finally whether the power developed by the engine is enough to pull the KERB Weight of the Vehilce together with its maximum payload.
Dear Mr Sadique,
To enable the steam to do the work we need a Turbine and then transmit the torque and the rpm generated by the turbine through the drive train and then to the wheels. Whats the mechanism you have in mind?
Moreover what type of cooling system, controlling system would you deploy? Any particular battery specification you are having in mind? Do we recapture the steam and convert into water for reuse or we just keep filling water as the fuel?

Good idea, it won't take much time to develop the engine, what we have to do is study the old steam engines how they work and change the techniqe to improve on power and reduce noise, all the books and technology right from James Watt is available. Good thinking... |

Recharging of battery needs power (more than 150% of the spent out put) which need to be generted using other source of energy.
A power generated by a source, cannot be replinished by another source which use the power from the original source due to efficiency factor and power lost in conversion and inversion to other forms of energy and back.

Hi I Like your idea but problem is that to produce steam we need coal or some fuel which will again lead to pollution. So i think Magnetic Train will be the best option in this regard. What do you think? I know establishment cost will be more. but it will save a lot in long terms. |

instead of using fossils such as coal to genetate steam we could use electricity, such as coils etc to reduce pollution.
