How can be the process of examination improved?

I feel that specially in under graduate and graduate level, exams should be conducted more in practical way rather than theory. Job oriented courses, curricula and teaching should be based on Institutional and Industrial. Theory part- in  the form of group discussions, lectures, power point presentations will help improve upon soft and communication skills, Industrial training improves practical aspects and paves the way to expose the student to different types of challenging situations and it builds confidence in the students. Mere conducting of exams in the present context keeps the students away from what is needed to him to progress and prosper in career.  

The emphasis should be more on practical aspects of the subject and coupled with a strong underpinning of the theoretical concepts, it is a winning combination for the student and the industry. Currently, there are many graduates coming out of institutions but who are not directly ready for the industry. A good mix of practical and theoretical concepts will help the candidate to succeed in the industry. Additionally, strict discipline needs to be followed so that candidates do not use unfair means to do better in the exams.....

Although I don't fully support your position here, the creative ways are the key to manage theory into practice. Otherwise you'd just have to go to wikipedia for all your answers.

Having an access to convert ideas into tangible, practical means is a bonus, but not at all the only proper way of obtaining knowledge.

So, whatever means necessary to bypass one professor and move to the next is are the exact means that will give you credentials among the likes of you at that particular field of study. Those more productive ones will do a little more.

Unfortunately the ones with the brightest ideas of all, but unable to express themselves in a proper way to pass the exam will fail.

Hello Pramod, I agree with you. As students are more worried and tense about examination. The board should consider more practical and application oriented examinations. This they can conduct periodically at their School/College level and to give grade instead of marks.

The need of the hour is to improve teacher learner environment that is to say Institutional and Insdustrial training specially for the Engineering students. Teaching is a passion and not profession. The teacher should be able to create an environament that suits to the students physical presence in the classes rather than bunking the classes. Introduce teaching and method points according to the levels of students intelligence. One student can grasp the subject matter in one hearing/studying but the other one may take two/three/ hearings/studying. Teacher must inculcate the habbit of intensive study of the test books rather than dependidng on  guides, question bank etc. Teaching should be guiding force. If he takes lectures after having intensive study of the various text books pertaining to the subject and make a lesson plan  he can impart intensive knowledge on the subject  to the student in the way he/they grasp the subject and under stand it. His lecture should be such that even an average student can understand and grasp the subject matter and retain it for ever. Such type of dedication is very much essential amongst teachers.  He should be able to visualise the students of the class for their intelligence level, grasping level, retension level and essimilation level. Divide the class into 4 groups- Above average students, high average students, average students and below average students.Bring the level of your teaching to below average student and try your best to bring them up to the level of high and above average level. Then the student develops confidence on himself on the teacher and on the subject,  it is like a three way plug. Internal exams, semister exams, practicals, theoery subjects in the form of lecture, group discussions will enable the teacher to grade the students intelligence levels and accordingly amend his ways of teaching suiting to the students in his classes.Treatment will be different to each patient. like wise teaching will be different to each student. This is to be known and implemeneted in right spirit to produce jems out of stones.

In my view Open book exam can be introduced only for LLB and LLM courses where in lot of references have to be quoted to produce answers to the questions. A person who is very much therough and had intensive study only can refer to the books and write answers in given time other students even caannot find answers to the given questions. This type of examination will be more pracatical, more natural and reveals application of mind knowledge and thought process to get the right answer. The student will be more confident, therough and more practical which helps him in future career building routine too.
