If all the doctors will follow the oath they had taken then I feel all the hospitals would be a better place than we are seeing now..... The Oath of Hippocrates
I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot! |

Great Ideate and I support this idea.
As pointed out by my friends let not the Doctors forget the oath they have taken.Let them not serve the people for charity.Having spent so much of money on their education they have every right to charge the patients but let there be some justice and humanitarian consideration.
If all the doctors will do their practice as per their "Oath", then lot of problems will be solved.
Thanks for referral, Sheetal.

This is the first basic thing what all the hospitals should do. First they should admit the patient & then charge the required fees. But people in the hospital ask the fees first & then only they allow the patient to get admitted.....this is dangerous as the patient may die also. |

|
The most basic factor is to admit the patient first in the hospital. Most of the times, the patient dies before he receives medical help as the hospitals are busy arguing the merits of the case and the fees before they even admit the patient.
This increases the chance of the patient losing his life as the golden hour is compromised. In order to at least focus on trying to save the patient, any hospital should first admit the patient immediately and then focus on all the other factors like fees, whether it is a police or civilian case, etc..
Thanks for the referral, Sheetal....
Sheetal the health in our country has turned into a profitable business. I know a doctor of some well known hospital and once i met him in a petrol pump I asked him why he is so late today in going to the hospital he replied i will open my shop a little bit late. I asked him if you dont get any patient today he replied I have a minimum guarantee clause so i am always being paid which ever is higher.
So you must understand the admission is on the basis of your pocket if it is deep admission is no problem but if it is not deep i am afraid your health may not be taken care off by the private operators.
Hai Sheetalji,
I do agree, From the Hospital's side-they have huge investment ,so definitely they will think of the return first. But they have to think from the Patient's side also. Most of the Hospitals are now became money making machines, Hospitals should try to fill the gap between Hospitality and Humanity. Some Hospitals which run by Spiritual Leaders are the real execptions and we do keep hope on them...

Hospital management is a separate domain today, Its no one man show. Using proper systems, training & evaluation monitoring, upgrading process and surveillance mechanism in place, moreover feedback and grievance redressal has to be effective. Cover – up cases to be handled by different team as nothing is this world (Universe) is sudden!! Thank you Ms Neha S, you inked that I did not. Best regards, Thank you. |

Wonderfully said Mr Dasgupta!..The appropriate technology and process when teamed up with the right people results in better services. Constant and consistent feedback/grievances addressing will further align it...
I do agree with the implementation of Hospital Administration. Besides, the management must be well equiped with tools and technologies. I have noticed the Govt.hospitals infrastructure are not upto the mark even. I hope in future we will have specialized infrastructure companies for building hospitals. Accountability is the another point,it must be a responsibility of all the employees as it is at all other workplace.
I agree, make the management and the docs more accountable.

Munnabai MBBS is the best comment on doctors and hospitals and that is what is happening in private and public hospitals. Doctors and Hospitals should also be covered under the law for deficiency in service |

Yes i agreed. doctors today only run after money. they have forgot for what they are there and they think that they are there to earn more and more money....
|
|
I suggest, we understand their problem first..MBBS 4 Years, MD/MS another 2 years, Super Specialty 1 more year. Subject to getting the seat and clearing the exams without backlogs. That means for 7 years after +2, they have to depend on parents even for their pocket money. This is in addition to the fee, cost of books and other equipment required. And while co-borns are earning and supporting parents...This leads to (a) don't care attitude and (b) looking for ways to make quick bucks...This a doctor student told me.. He pleaded "Uncle, don't send your children for medical studies.." Look at his parents... investing money on this man for 7 years..Just think about it.. |

dear sir\
i defer with you becuz they get their stipend from the day they become house surgeons and also they get immunized from feelings as they keep watching ailing people all around them. Hippocratic oath as some learned friends have said does not carry any effect on them they become hypocrites.

I AGREE WITH Mr.sanjay kumar mangal & Mr.kanukurthy sudershanrao IT IS VERY BEST TOPIC ON THE ALL DOCTORS.WHEN PATIENT COME IN TO HOSPITAL AT THAT TIME FRIST GO TO THE COUNTER THEN TAKE RECEIPT & THEN TAKE APPOINTMENT OF DOCTORS. IT WILL TAKE SO MANY TIME TO DO.IF DOCTORS ARE BUSY OR NOT OR NOT PRESENT DONT KNOW..

To be a doctor,( now a days, you have to do post graduation) and that means spending a fortune and the moment you come out of completing the course, the main concern is how to recover the money invested and become rich. This is what is happening in every profession. In addition we are seeing doctors who also get administrative posts, taking bribes. We are in an impossible situation.
A right balance has to be struck and this to a degree happening in corporate medical services.
Apollo is one example. I have been hearing Dr. Pratap Reddy and his daughter at many forums and they have a vision for better health care not only in urban areas but also covering Rural India through tele-medicine.
Similarly a doctor in Bengaluru is already doing a wonderful job of providing Health care at low cost to under privileged through Insurance coverages which is worth emulating at the National level.
Technology and out of box thinking can take the preventive health care to the people at the bottom of the pyramid by reaching out to unreachable.
The malaise afflicting our society has to be slowly cured.

great idea!!!!!!!!!!! how can i listen to Dr.Pratap and his daughter's forum?

Ethics of one and exploitative tendencies of the other can never go together. Everyone expects Doctors to be ethical...fair enough, yet mostly forgetting, they are as well human and part of a society where they are fleeced at every step whether dealing as person or even while as a professional. To keep expecting is fine yet we must learn to begin with self as example in delivery to society. Unless society as a whole starts to course correct, it is a futile expectation from a single section to tread on ethics and it may never get fulfilled. |

I must say that Drs just have to remember that they are dealing with lives. Its their hands which will give life to some one and smile on their relatives' face
If they start realise this they will never take wrong step.
and about emergency hospitalisation, the SC has already given judgement that emergency cases have to be admitted in near by hospital and has to treat patient till he/she gets stabilise.
and if hospital denies than it will be considered under negligence and they have to give compensation if patient dies or get disability cause of late medical treatment.
Here people have to know there rights and results should be given faster in this kind of cases
Dear Manoj and sopporting friends,
Agreed Doctors "should" follow Oath of hippocrates, yet are we not forgetting they belong to the same society and system where the heads of subject much more important called governance completely forget the oath be it to nation or its people or constitution.
Reminding only doctors of the oath we are forgetting they are not from another planet and can not be treated in isolation.
Learn in detail of the handling Doctors got during CWG at the hands of games controlling VIP Babu's, while not fogetting the usual beating at the hands of patients relatives in government run hospitals. Am sure, you will change your opinion...
In response to Mr Shajeel,
The rate at which rush for money is replacing ethics and morality very soon you will run short of regulators as well and how many fields of activity would you install regulators in?
It is regrettable that while world appreciates India only for its heritage and values we the Indians are bent upon turning "rats in race".

Hospitals are places where we get in more than temples, we believe doctors are the god whom we can see...but now a days hospitals are only money making organizations...I do feel it would be really better if they comfort the patient as well as the relatives, treat the disease, then charge appropriately we could get some faith in them.
Hope you all agree.. |

its true that service sectors are emerging today like flying colors ........ but to add ,the recent incident in UP ... where doctors made a mistake .......... by operating an infant of two weeks ....... it had come hospital coz it had some problem with its ears , but the doctors operated its intestine.!! shocking na so instead of just saying that the hospitals should improve . first let them perform their duty properly but in the other hand its true that they are providing ample of services to the public |

If we want the hospitals to improve service then they should start looking at the services industry to learn their orientation.....

They should just follow their ethics and things will improve automatically. They must not make their profession -a business.

OATH. Yes Doc's do follow oath but the oath what management has asked to follow . And like any other industry they too have competitors and the competition is huge . Doc's too have to achieve numbers on time . The only solution is govt interference . |

Doctors will never simply follow oaths. They have to be whipped up, especially Indian doctors, as they don't realise the gravity of the situation they are in.

I want to say that today private hospitals in Delhi are charging too much for the personal touch. They should try to be more economical and doctors should prescribe only important tests rather than asking for too many unnecessary tests which scare the patients. And also they should avoid asking for too many consultations for diseases like viral fever. |

Helping so would make them realize that they haee human heart and their is more important things in life than money. thay should always remember this...."One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching. "

People who are throwing stones at the doctor , remember if they are ethical enough in their profession. Bad people are everywhere. ITs there in every profession. To change that the mindset of the society has to change. Its happening slowly but it will take a long time to be fully back to good old times.

Now a days in todays Multi speciality hospitals increasing chains its very important for Doctors rather than running behind the money its theior moral duty to support the people from right amount of medicine & tests otherwise its become business to suck all the money fron people who ones visited hospital for an ordinary cause

In my view government will regularize the working tendency which means not the government doctors do no have eligibility to open a private clinic or doctors having private clinic are not eligible for working in the government sector with regularize salary and hospital fees....

The life of every human being is precious one.He or she should receive unflinching treatment she he or she is need. The patient faces a fluke when he approaches the hospitals on many counts and one of is money, his worth and his connections. The service tag must be created based on pattern of UID and he should immediately be admitted without fuss. |

The Hospitals should stop behaving like MONEY BANKS... even Banks nowadays 'Think' about providing better services to their clients. I have been associated with Hospitals as a Creative Director & have also personally EXPERIENCED their Medical side too... The approach needs to be SOFTENED & MORE HUMANIZED... givng solace to the Patient & their Families. Their BODY LANGUAGE, MANNERISM & TONATION needs to change drastically. Last but not the least ... They should stop their Patient SCARING tactics. If U dont take this Treatment, ths will happen. I Pray to GOD ALMIGHTY... Not to Hospitalise even an Enemy...! |
