IPL AD line says ‘It’s back.’ And one can say it’s back with a bang. More appropriately , ensuring there’s more bang for the buck this time round for brands who want to ride on one of the biggest sporting properties on the planet. With theatrical rights and the Google/Youtube deal in the bag, industry estimates peg revenues for IPL 3 to touch Rs 700 crore, a 50% jump in revenues this year from season two held in South Africa last year.

Another space generating interest is separate rights sold by IPL to Colors channel for what is called IPL entertainment. While Colors has started floating the market, media agencies say clients are cautious about jumping in immediately.

So, how can IPL act as a platform to create new brands & formulating a marketing strategy? Give your ideas....

Optimum use of the platform

idea posted by Namrata Pathak Accounts Manager, American Express

IPL provides an excellent platform where companies & investors can invest & come up with new ideas to promote their brands or product. It all depends on how smartly one utilises the association . Use multiple opportunity and integrate the efforts for disproportionate returns after all it’s a serious investment & how prepared are the companies to maximize their profits.

Further the companies can use the platform to reach millions of people at one shot, both on the feilds & off the feilds.

Thanks for the refer Namrata. Nice idea and good arguement too. IPL certainly is one sport-oriented marketing platform that can be explored with fresh ideas to promote brands / products. But how prepared are various companies / agencies would be nice to see.

Purely from a personal perspective (a good cricket follower that I am), have lost interest in the 20-20 platform in general and IPL in particuilar over the last year or so. The first edition was good to follow but editions thereafter didnot interest me. Aforsaid apart, it will remain an event that would unfold strategies and campaigns.

Cricket is the crazy game. It is the good platform for the companies to sell their products and come up with new ideas and new products.

when billion population is Crazy  .......you can even sell dust in the price of Gold.............. there is no competition at all .........and hence here No Marketing strategies  are required....its  a flowing river...only we have to put the product to let it float................rewards are plenty..........it is basically en cashing and nothing else............

By Dust my view is those brands which are not known to market there accountability is not known ;; even they can get the nation wide OR international audience.....

Other Sports can leverage from IPL  by developing their Brands

"Only way here is to make other sports popular as popular as Cricket then we will find what the scenarios turn out to be.........we cannot say Cricket is the only sports...think we need to find methods to fill the gaps for other sports ....there is huge business lying in other sports also ........We Indians love sports thats sure......so we can make money........... other sports take cue from Cricket...........

That day when every sport will compete each other will be sublime moments for Indian sports we can surely not only go for ethical sponsors but eventually will be able to do justice for Olympic medals also ....here pride concerns....this strategy will serve DUAL 1)  a new Brand for the new sport will come into picture and 2) In this way we will develop ourselves for the Olympics also .........we cannot lag behind china also  ...these strategies will surely work........."

I agree with you Manish. If not atleast you have your brand name in front of the people. Especially new entry should give a shot at it even if it is little costlier so what. Atleast you have people heard about you somehow. However, I do think one needs to have not much but just a strategy in a sense how to promote in front of people in a manner atleast it would catch the eye of everyone at least for once.

i definitely agree with manish , cricket isnt the only sports which needs to promoted on a king size campaign.Actually if we recall it back it was actually started by the indian hockey league, but was not a sucess due to lack of promotion & the backing of big lions

coulodnt agree with you Manish! Considering the hype that runs with cricket in this country......as you say.....you can sell dust at the price of Gold!

Good view point!

Salebility & Soundability

idea posted by Kashif Billal Training & Induction Manager, H&M Hennes & Mauritz

IPL has made one thing very clear to me, that is in Cricket each & every thing has got salebility if you see it with the rite Perception.

For Example, last year Shah Rukh Khan's KKR had their Cheer Leader's selection through NDTV Imagine's show. So there are Immense scope of New Brands & Entertainment with the Mighty IPL.

I agree Kashif. There has to be a valid reason for saleability & viability. IPL is a big lesson that marketeers can learn from. Thanks for the referral!!

IPL for Marketing and not Branding

idea posted by vinit Project coordinator, PM Dimensions

Why IPL?

IPL is back in India. Almost everyone is excited about it and it is going to fetch more eye balls than ever before.  It provides best platform for any producer to make his/her product reach huge number of audience. Also, IPL is a prestigious league. Nothing more need to be said.

Now, a company can market its product extensively but it cannot manipulate the experience of the customer. Thus, the IMAGE, that is going to reflect in consumer’s mind will entirely depend on his/her experience. We have already discussed that Brand is the image of the product in the market.

Example:

Looking at a fascinating and convincing add I purchase a soap (psychological aspect). I like the soap and it fulfills my expectations so next time I buy it again (experiential aspect). But if I don’t like it, I will buy some other soap next time. And for me this brand is not good.

IPL is being watched all over the world. This means it catches the audience from most part of the world. Thus, IPL can help a well established local brand reach global audience. This way it can be first step for a local brand to be a global brand.

INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSITION TO INTERNATION PREMIERE LEAGUE

idea posted by SRINIVASAN KV SALES & MARKETING, Bharti Airtel

Over a period of time IPL( Indian Premier League) will become International Premier League. Already cricket is getting popular in countries where it not being played. The world is now open for fusion music the indication is A.R.Rahman's OSCAR award. The baseball played in US and Cricket in general there is scope for meeting point. Once IPL goes to International scene. The word globalisation have its impact on NEW BRANDS.
