Just a few days ago, Indian educational board Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)'s international education syllabus was launched. The board has already done away with the antiquated examinations-oriented system of student assessment and has replaced it with a gradation system or what is commonly described by the teaching community as continuous and comprehensive evaluation. Under this system of assessment,

1) A student will no longer get to know the number of marks he or she has scored in the examination. They will be instead given grades.

2) A student will be promoted to the next class not merely on the basis of his or her performance in examinations but on a comprehensive yearlong evaluation of their performance in both scholastic and non-scholastic areas. So among other things, students will also be assessed and evaluated on the basis of their attitude, creative skills, communication abilities, aesthetic skills, scientific skills, oratorical abilities, and their performance in health and physical education activities.

3) The academic and non-academic evaluations are expected to provide a comprehensive profile of a student. As per the new system, an academic year is divided into two terms instead of the previous three.

The first term now begins in April and ends in September. The second term begins in October and ends in March.

So users, how can this new evaluation system to benefit Indian students?

Reduce Stress

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

This will take a lot of stress off students. It will lead to healthy competition among students. A student will now have to cultivate an all-rounded personality. Everything will count, not just the marks in the examinations. Earlier, it was heart-breaking for teachers, parents and students to see someone scoring 89.5 marks and yet not being acknowledged because another student had scored 90 marks. The new system will provide grades and that will not lead to the demoralisation of an high-achieving student. This is a very balanced system and we welcome it.

I think you are right but at the same time do our students be equally serious about the studies. I think with the grade the parents role will grow stronger and more strigent depending the grade their pupil has scored.

Never the less a good idea and will probably work wonders may be a year or two later from the inception of the graded system.

Overall personality development

The new system will allow students to evolve as a mature person. As the new system gives importance to sports, communication skills, oratory skills etc the student should have ample knowledge of every discipline to get good grades. This allows the students to develop their overall personality.

Students tries to learn instead of memorize

This actually a good decision. The actual learning process of the student start when there is less burden on the student. Now a days, the mark based examination system actually spoiled the entire education system in India. I hope this will revive the education system and at least now the students may get a chance to learning something new and different.

Work requires cognition, cognition from infrastructure and resources under welfare. So any change devoid of welfare and efficient environment will be slow and laborious some times won't even do any good in the final analysis like every change that we undertook for the past 50 years.

Will also help the students to get out of the FROGS IN THE WELL and give them the required necessary exposure............to enhance and develop their skills which r required and essential for the rest of the life rather than mere bookish knowledge ..........Percentage /cgpa etc serves only as a gate pass to write govt exams etc but these days logical and communication skills are given more emphasis
