How can the Biomarkers bring revolution in the Biotech industry?

Detection of cancers was a problems till now. But biomarkers has changed it all. They have been successful in detecting various cancers like lung cancer, prostrate cancer, etc. in early stages. This has created a revolution in the biotech industry.

Not surprisingly, the standards for viable biomarkers are high. Ideally, a diagnostic marker meets seven conditions:

1) it detects a fundamental feature of the disease with high sensitivity and specificity;

2) is validated in post-mortem confirmed cases;

3) standardized with sound bioinformatics;

 4) specific for the disease compared with related disorders;

5) reliable in many testing environments/labs;

6) noninvasive;

7) simple to perform; and

8) inexpensive

Monoclonal antibodies have a great applications to be used as the biomarkers which can bring the much needed revolution in the Biotech Industry.

Autoantibodies are constitutive and dynamic components of the immune system. And in good alignment with the definition of a biomarker, they can change specifically with the development of diseases as it is already established for several autoantibodies. Further, autoantibodies are stable in serum or plasma for years, which makes both retro- and prospective studies easily possible.
