Firewall and using Sandboxie

idea posted by Ravikumar B.Sc student, Dr.NGP arts and Science College

1. Using the firewall to protect from the Packet spoofing and other network attacks.

2. Using sandboxie to prevent from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.

Benefits of the Isolated Sandbox

  • Secure Web Browsing: Running your Web browser under the protection of Sandboxie means that all malicious software downloaded by the browser is trapped in the sandbox and can be discarded trivially.
  • Enhanced Privacy: Browsing history, cookies, and cached temporary files collected while Web browsing stay in the sandbox and don't leak into Windows.
  • Secure E-mail: Viruses and other malicious software that might be hiding in your email can't break out of the sandbox and can't infect your real system.
  • Windows Stays Lean: Prevent wear-and-tear in Windows by installing software into an isolated sandbox.

check external drive before you use

You can use explore option and show hidden files option to see and delete the unwanted files in pendrive or any external drives... I do the same. It really works. Installing anti-virus slows down the PC.

Remote registry & some RPC Service must have bloked ,IN Run -gpedit.msc - some registry editing tools are bloked with it and some privacy related feature bloked by group policy editor and we have to make our disk write protected and autorun bloked so prevent autorun virus to come on pc

Clean Software

idea posted by Sonam Kapoor Software Developer, IBM

If a PC is free from antivirus software, then it should have legitimate and clean software. That means pirated copies of programs that can be downloaded through various sites or on newsgroups, borrowed from friends through file sharing, or found on shareware and freeware sites all should be denied for the PC. As there is no scanning, so a file you download online is not as easy to check for viruses as it would be if you had an antivirus program installed.

Built-In Protections

idea posted by Leena Pawar Tech Architect, IT Infotech

In today’s PC, there has some malware protection already built in the computer. Even before we computer loads your OS, it launches the code found in our system's BIOS (basic input-output system), which initiates the hardware relevant products or services in your PC and enables us to identify the components we have. The BIOS could be accessed by pressing F2 or Del during boot-up, which is an optional boot sector protection mechanism. If we enable this, we can protect the PC against boot sector viruses without ever installing a single anti virus too.
Also, various browsers provide some security tools, including anti-phishing filters or lists of web sites that are known carriers of harmful software.
