I think if you want people to stop spitting/urinating/throwing away garbages/stop using modes of transport which cause more pollution etc. you need to give people feasible options so that they can avoid doing that and still live their life in a better way. See its like this:- when you and I go to a air conditioned mall, we don't throw away even a toffee wrapper on the way and make it a point put it in a dustbin, so this means that we all like cleanliness but on a highway or a busy new delhi ring road, we don't really find anything of that sort though we find a lots of shops selling these kinda items. So we do want to buy that but then we don't have enough and affoardable options to dispose that. Same is the case with public facilities (toilets/bus-stops/libraries). The point is precieously that people do want to follow basic civil sense but at times it becomes a burden or to an extent even unviable to do that and we end up causing inconvience to others. |

we have not to depend only on govt. for make people more civic it is also our duty to aware peoples for education, follow the govt. rules, help poor families for education. after that we are able to tell anyone for this. we are only solution of this problem....
How many dustbins have you seen being used. Try keeping a dustbin in a corner of a public building of north India (where 'paan' is a passion) and see what happens to the walls around it. You must have seen several examples where office dustbins are also not being properly used by the personnel (not only in govt. offices). Enough dustbins are provided at railway stations but I need not to tell that people dont care to even walk upto it. The primary thing is the sense of the user. If everybody, or even most of us, start looking for dust bin then automatically a demand/need will be generated and by the natural law provisions will be improved.
I have not supported this idea not because the idea is wrong but because its not the required initiative of the day. We have already seen that providers have failed and the main reason behind it is lack of demand or utility (because it was not used). Hence, now its time to create demand. Which can only be done by creating a better civic sense in ourselves and using whatever is provided to the maximum and hence exert pressure on the providers.
Let us not just hit the ping pong ball to the other side of the table but let us turn the table itself with a smash of our cosistent excellent civic sense.
I support this idea. You cannot enforce civic attitude except by educating people and by giving them accessible options. We are so large a country and enforcement is so weak, we cannot rely on any other method except to increase the level of maturity of the citizens.

Dual values are the single biggest stumbling block in this regard. Teachers, parents, seniors and so called leaders and preachers talk one thing and practice just the opposite. Self Servicing is a trait born out of this. To a child this is first introduction to world of deceit and practicality, wherein whatever is taught is projected as not good for practice. Thanks Ayan. |

Dear Ayan,
Civility is all about concerns for others, is comparative and is greatly impacted by overall atmosphere.
Honest and truthful people seen suffering at the hands of crooks and self-servicing powerful impacts the minds of many on the fence.

What we do is everytime we will be blaming the system and politicians for various things which we lack today. Here, it will be unfair to blame the government or politicians for not doing anything about the country’s growth and development. Ultimately what is government? Isn’t it people like us. Our representatives haven’t come from Mars or Jupiter. They are one of you and me. How we are as a society, is reflected everywhere. Let us assume that the 550 members of Parliaments we have elected were to be removed with a magic wand and replaced with a fresh set of another 550 leaders even they have to come from the same society which we are living in. So let us create a better society first than anything else. |

Though I agree with you Ayan but at the sane time it is the responsibility of the elected representative of a perticular area to take care of every thing in addition they are paid Rs 2 crore to uplift the area they represent, but once in Delhi most of the elected representative forget their responsibility and look for the ways to earn more and more money by any means.
They will never go to Mars or Moon since ther is no corruption there. Send one of them and ten other people see corruption will start in Mars and Moon also.
This not necesserily means all of them are like that but most of them falls in to the first catagory.

There are generally 3 types of leaderships which influence the masses 1. Leading from front: This affects the most. It is synonymous to the philosophy of "top to bottom". The recognised leaders have to set the path. 2. Leading from behind: "Fence sitting" in other words. They dont take lead but when they see things happening then they come forward and contribute a lot. 3. Leading from within: They are the catalysts. As the first is not happening hence second are not getting ignited. Its the third ones whom we can look at and the ones which we can try to become. All the patriotic Indians can start by themselves to remain smart in public as they are in private. There is no derth of such Indians and they too have not come from Jupiter or Mars. what is needed is to start from wherever we are. Accept the limitations as instantaneous failures and keep going. At the same time educate at least our offsprings. The situation has worsened in centuries and will naturally take sometime to come to track. |

Mr. Ayan, I agree with you that the people enmass is the society, state, nation. Existence of these entity, totally, reflects the mass who are living in. To give a different look and shape to these bodies, the people who live in are to invigourate its neighbourhood with positive thoughts. Things that spoils India's progress & unable to give positive thoughts are due to multi-language & culture; multi political parties. We can not purely blame a political party because it is formed by some section of us only. So, it does reflect that group characteristics. Whatsoever happening in these sphere, Media needs to publicise more positive action consummated, progress made to advance people, step in the offing to re-energize the people. This positive reinforcement will give a tremendous impetus on society thinking & action. Also, media can curtail as much as possible the negative thoughts even it is very prevalent in sciety. Amplifying a negative measures mutiplying that force manifolds. We can say that at-risk behaviour in the society is multiplied. So, as much as possible , media is to feed positive message to society to keep them going instead of giving out negative thoughts to break the chain of progress. People may say a term called investigative journal. Through investigative journal more crimals are indirectly developed by following the method adopted there. What I feel is to create smaller groups as models & broadcast them to population. |

The civic awareness can be educated by adding subject in curriculum from school level and at the same time compulsory military training for all citizens. l |

The conscious word per Se means "aware of and responding to one's surrounding".There is therefore no way except some one either me or you or group of people have to set example to spread civic consciousness, Thanks,Ayan for referral. |

Correct! and I wish to underline the word "respond" without which meaning of awareness can never be completely understood.

No marketing agency or marketing strategy has paid dividends when compared to political parties reaching out to rural masses during elections. The strategy adopted by these politicians have paid real dividends than any thing else. What do you say? The remotest of the remotest hamlet knows the top election symbols and they know whom to vote. If such an awareness can be created by politicians among the mases to come to power , why cant they use the same media or strategy to bring in civic sense ? Nothing is impossible in India. What we need is the single thought to resolve the issue rather than solving the issue.

Thanks Ayan. This seems to be the only way for making Indians more civic conscious. Up to a limit you can force things into an individual but he has to be educated properly for the result that you want. Here education does not mean your schooling. Here education means properly guiding the individuals about the importance of the civic amenities and their use to the society as a whole and as an individual. This can be done throug innovative teaching and advertising. Of course the onus is on the Govt. But we as as individual can do a lot. |

Good ideas given by many experts. But for all this planning, we require leaders. In India, we have so many leaders, a huge democracy present here. But i don't think India has good leader. A person who leads, people want to become like him. Then a single person(leader) can make people more civic. But if our leaders, managing committees, Govt can't lead population of India. Then nobody do well in the case. And Education is not a single solution for same. I can prove that Educated/ qualified people overwhelming to spoil our surroundings. And it is not easy to teach an educated people rather than un-educated. It is too big topic.. |

In order to enjoy our constitutional rights, we are expected to meet our civic responsibility. Civic responsibility may be referred to as the equipment and willingness of individuals to display or demonstrate desirable values and social attributes or behaviours in their relationships with themselves, their fellow human beings, their environment and institutions.

Why!! Test cricket is the best form of cricket and that tests the real power of a player. We should not get lost in glamor and forget the roots should we?? |
BJP too is forcing him to resign but he is seeking legal options to stay in. No one wants him, everyone knows how corrupt he is still he is not willing to leave! what should this attitude be called? Do you think he will resign at will ? |
Yes it can be called inside information from a blog. We cannot the understand the real feeling without facing a similar situation. |
