Most companies want to dispose of their e-waste responsibly so they seek out an electronics recycler, or an asset recovery company. It is recommended that countries should establish e-waste management centers of excellence, building on existing organizations working in the area of recycling and waste management.Recyclers should not cheat by dumping the e-waste in developing countries.

This eye-opening film summarizes the work of the Basel Action Network's (BAN) years of investigation into the dumping of electronic waste in developing countries, exposing the ugly underbelly of the computer recycling industry – and what really happens with the used electronics discarded by businesses today.

So, something should be done fast or else its going to be a very chaotic situation and one day we all will pay for this.Think fast & give your ideas.

Govts. Involvement

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

The developing countries Govt. should take strict action against the the culprits & approach the respective countries Govt.If the Govt.. of the developed country itself is involved then victim nations should take the help of the UN.

EXIM policies should be made more strict & visible to the eyes of law. This will put a check on the illegal imports & exports of  e-wastes.

Yes,I agree with Sumitra. The developing countries should form more stringent polices and implement them strictly in e-waste management. The H/W manufacturers should made part and participle of e-waste management. At the same an internation e-waste management policy should be framed in association with international organisation like UN

I agree with Mr. sujith's view . I think govt. and NGOs should make more direct communication to the masses ( Not only the Urban educated) . It can be done through the Celebrities as was done for vaccination programmes.

Thanks

I think there should be some techniques need to be developed by h/w manufacturing company in which, they should take back old hardwares from consumers and recycle those h/w's into new... I do not know whether it is possible or not. But it will help in disposing the waste in other unwanted areas..

I think, Gov. policies are always broken and people always get success to adopt a bypass. So i would suggest to evolve a reengineering method to incur some help in this issue...

Have Common Norms and Standards across the Globe applicable on all countries

Govt. Must take care of Norms in handling electronic wastes

Make it illegal for one country to export its junk to another. Everyone must process and recycle their own waste.

Awareness on the ill effects of ewaste

idea posted by ShobbanaRamesh Consultant, Consultancy

What is more important is the awareness on the ill effects of ewaste on environment and health. When the awareness level raises and the developing countries stop importing and accepting ewaste, the developed countries cannot dump ewaste in other countries

A more effective monitoring of the Ban.

idea posted by Soorain Vahie Freelancer, Consulting

Like you mentioned the World Federation of Consumer (CI) had called for tighter government monitoring to prevent the continued dumping of e-waste on the developing world. The call came as investigations by CI's indicated that the vast majority was of e-waste was from EU countries, one of the signatory of the effective enforcement of the Basel Convention Ban. The Basel Ban was meant to outlaw the dumping of e-waste on the developing world, but inadequate  A better and more effective monitoring ?

Developing guidelines/ Penalties for import of used goods

idea posted by Vinod M Raveendranath Managing Partner, AmfiOS Technologies

India should develop guidelines on a war-footing and implement them on Import/trade of used goods from other countries. There should be criteria for Toxicity, Re-usability and Recoverability of imported used materials. And facilitators / perpetrators should be penalized heavily.

Recycle at the source.

idea posted by Cyril Sr. Engineer Business Excellence

E waste shall be the next disaster of the 21st century. Unless and untill their is an policy and recycling method the duping to the third world countries continues. Immediate attempt to stop import of E waste should stop and traders who import these waste believing India has a dump yard should be penalized heavily.

Research & development should be the top priority to reuse e waste.
