Lean six sigma if used effectively can help you get huge and consistent savings.

If used effectively, lean six sigma can add value across the system, and the best part is, the gains are consistent and recurring. It is a process of continuous improvement, and your gains will keep adding as long as you keep using six sigma methodology. I used to work with GE and the entire organization is lean six sigma oriented and you will hardly see any waste in the system.

Hello Sir, I totaly agree with your attempt to justyfy the powere of lean & six sigma but fundamentally i beg to differ on the way you have described both, to me Lean is a methodology which can be used to eliminate waste in the systme and reduce cost/NVA/Time, where as six sigma methodology will reduce the variation in the system and channelize absolute quality(Rework reduction, customer satisfaction, greater interchangability, How ever these concepts talk to each other, both are really capable of reducing the cost of the function

Sustaining changes

Well Lean focuses on improving the quality and reducing the cost, whereas six sigma is to reduce waste and increase speed. I thereby think that combination of both ( Lean Six Sigma ) is best suitable for short term changes and sustainable corporate changes.

ix Sigma alongwith Lean Manufacturing will definitely bring sustainable changes in processes, product quality and work environment, whic will have positive effect on company performance.

It should be kept in mind that, Lean Six Sigma by itself is not a solution to a problem. The success of Lean Six Sigma depends on selection of area, accuracy of applying Six Sigma and the technical suggestion evolved in this process.

We might have seen lean approach first in manufacturing, but now a days lean six sigma is not limited to just manufacturing it can been applied across various sectors of the industries.

certainly subject can be applied across various supply chain managements. But, i feel approach by top management is very much needed in every step of processes.Effective utilisation of manpower is very important in any lean management programmes.simple reduction in inventory and WIP itself will bring lot of profits.added to this, effective time study in each process is very important for long run profits.

Six Sigma Always Talked About Lean Though Not Focused

In all Six Sigma projects in the define phase after process mapping we look for Value Added and Non Value Added activities. And in a typical project in operations we make an attempt to remove the non-value added activites. And Six Sigma has always been beneficial to the organization. For six sigma projects that are typical on cycle time reduction, we have knowingly/ unknowlingly used lean principles.

Increased value for consumers

idea posted by Abhijeet Kadian Sales/BD Manager, Bharat Heavy Electricals

I think with lean six sigma, real tangible value can be created for consumers as reduced cost and improved quality of products are two of the benefits that the consumers will enjoy from the products and services.

Six Sigma waste reduction and Lean manufacturing improved quality will increase value for consumers.
