In every office, especially in India, there are a whole host of people who keep the office running — the office boy, the canteen boy, the security guard, the drivers, the peons.

This is the silent support staff. They take care of the ‘little things’ that enable us to achieve the ‘big things’. A simple study of how organisations treat this silent support staff is an indicator of leadership empathy.

So, how should companies go for treating their support staffs???

Treat them humanely

idea posted by Dipika Das Associate/Sr. Associate -(NonTechnical), ABC Consultants Private Limited

Though they are working in low profile they still play a very vital role & need to be respected for their work. They should be treated as stakeholders & given equal importance as it is given to others.

They should be treated humanely despite the fact that they are bottom line staff. One should always remember that without the support of these people organization can never run smoothly. They must be given at least humanely treatment.

In all the I R related strategies and also in the staff-welfare related issues, the humane approach blended with dignity is always stressed in almost all the industries now a days. This a must in the interest of the survival of the industry. And this is well documented in the policy statement of the organization.

Regardless of the position a person is holding in an organization, treating him/her humanely is the minimum ( most important) possible effort that can be made by the people at the top position. If this is not done, then in my opinion those persons are proving that they are not under the category of HUMAN BEINGS.

we have seen or heard of many workers at this level do not work for company's growth but they just work for the money. inspite we should ask them to participate them for activities other than usual for example if a doctor asks his aassistant to only write the name of patients or ask him to give only instructions to patient he will not get intrest in other possibilities such as keeping records of materials or telling him what he is doing with patients he will himself start talking intrest in clinic as ihis own intrest.

These are the people who carry out all the hard work from the grassroot level. They provide a foundation which makes the work of the higher staff much easier. The company should look into their welfare as they are not highly paid and at the same time their growth in the respective companies they work is limited..

Provide other growth opportunities...

In my opinion they should be given equal opportunities to grow & explore more about their strengths & weakness. By this way they will be able to contribute more to the company/organization.

So, care should be taken that they don't get frustrated by their daily routine. Mix some fun in it so that they love what they are doing....

However organizations treats all staff as humans, the difference comes down at the benefits and growth opportunities...only.....

Every human being has its learning skills, ER's / organizations must spend some time on these staff for better prospectuses in the office and make them to learn on week ends.

cheers,,, experts...

Organization cannot survive without supporting staff.

idea posted by Anita Rajput MBA/PGDM student, Sikkim Manipal University

Supporting staff are the pillars of any organization.  Without supporting staff not even a single company can survive.  We should treat supporting staff like a family because if we will not listen their opinions, ideas or suggestions they will stop putting their efforts in the growth of the organization.  So its necessary that we should treat them equally, humanly and with the dignity.

Treat them with belongingness

If you feel that you belong to an organisation and if you are touched, moved and inspired by the vision and mission of the organisation , automatically, your view towards your staff, peers will change. Treat every one whether in side or outside the corporate world with belongingness, you will feel that the entire world is yours. All other things will fall in place.

Show them future growth in the company

They should feel that this company will give them growth. Be a leader to them upfront. That is how they will accept you as their leader. Be firm. They will be firm. Give them freedom but draw a line. They will not cross it.

But remember money is an eventual reality for them. They cant live on love and fresh air alone. So look after them well. They will look after you well.

I recollect what Karl Marx said"When Poverty knocks at the door, Honesty flies out of the window!! So make sure you make them feel comfortable monetarily. They will remain honest and not knock at others' doors nor knock you down!!! They will always rally behind you!!!
