Recent news says that the government has resurrected talk on ‘e-Bharat’ which is a dying project at initial stage with World Bank. The Project was supposed to bring efficiency in administration management and better collection of taxes.

The DIT (Department of IT)  has initiated renewed talks with World Bank to see speedy execution of project by agreeing to some conditions put forward by World Bank. Its implementation cost is in upwards of $300 million with major chunk coming from World Bank which would be managing the project along with providing consultancy to the government. The e-Governance can help governance in speedy execution of policy which can also help government in speedily collect tax revenues.

So, how do you think ‘e-Governance’ in India can be a success?

By promoting public-private partnership

eGovernance can be a success in India by promoting public-private partnership in various sectors like IT and Telecom and Infrastructure. As the UID project was a big step as it can create massive domestic IT opportunities along with helping individuals with less paper work. The public–private partnership model could be the only winning formula for government to see success in their ‘e-Governance’ plans. The tendering of work to multiple partners could also result in better efficiency at execution.

Right now e-governance prosess are alredy in a stream as far as most of the Government departmets are concerned. Income Tax Department, Central Excise, Service Tax, Company Affairs, Central and State Vat and so on are in fullfledged stage. Indian judiciaries are also started implementing e-governance, eventhough in slow and phased manner. In my view within next few years India will be at the stage 100% e-governance.
