This may not be walking the talk, but food companies, including McDonald’s, KFC, Nestle, Hindustan Unilever, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are finding it difficult lately with heightened pressure from anti-obesity campaigns, health activists and nutritionists for selling products that aid weight gain, And in a way these companies are trying hard to create a healthy image.

So, how can Food brands create a healthy image for themselves in this regard??

Declaration of detailed nutritional information

idea posted by Purvi Ghosh Marketing analyst, Percept Advertising

I think declaration of detailed nutritional information upfront is the primary medium of interaction with the consumer and saying that we are there. And also this is one important way showing the differentiation from branded and unbranded food products. And also shows a commitment towards the consumer with this kind of initiatives, don't know whether it works or not, but then someone somewhere has to start such kind of initiatives which helps food brands to create a healthy image....

I agree with you Ms.Purvi.

Besides, it is necessary to indicate the complete ingredient that the food items contains. Moreover they add some chemicals to keep the food for long lasting. The chemical ingredient is not good for health. Hence, it would be better to consume natural food with cooking. The life becomes fast and therefore people use the readily available/packet foods without understanding the harmful nature to health.

Yes, I agree.

Also, they must have a statutory warning space where they have to declare all items and process that they have used that may cause any harm (to some or all consumers). Like how many times the oil was used to fry the food stuff before it was disposed, etc.

Selective Food Products which needs to have healthy image can use Drugs stores to reach People who are health concious (the target customers)... this can trigger increase in Visibility per target customer and hence build a desired image !

Use CSR initiatives apart from the above

idea posted by Jaygopal Raghavan Marketing Manager, Landmark Group

Participating in health & nutritional camps for the downtrodden would not only fulfill the CSR initiatives but also help the companies brand image as a socially responsible one and not just contributing to obesity and the likes.

This should be done alonwith the other points stated above.

More & Specific information about the product

Besides the nutritional value, the ingrdients and the various processes followed. How to be consumed. Whether can be consumed as a snack or breakfast. Health benefits. Recomedation by FDA type of organisation or by a consortium of Independent Health specialists. Not only giving the information on the package or through ads but following it literally and standing by it. This will go a long way in creating healthy food brand image.
