Hard as it is to imagine it... amid the chaos of Commonwealth Games preparations in New Delhi and a million small mutinies across the country, an official US report has declared India to be the 4th most powerful nation/bloc in the world after the United States, China, and the European Union.  Europe being a union of many countries, we can take the 3rd position here....

The report "Global Governance 2025" says the United States remains the world's most powerful country in 2010, accounting for nearly 22 per cent of the global power.  It is followed by China (12 per cent), and India (eight per cent). Japan, Russia and Brazil with less than five per cent each. Taken as a bloc, European Union comes second with 16 per cent of global power.

So, how did this transition from a third world country to a third most powerful nation happen??

when India became a outsourcing destination

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

It s mainly because India got too much of money through outsourcing work which it did for other countries, so that they could work more towards their core competencies, India became the backend process for many of the companies world over, and this generated tremendous revenue and also jobs all across India, and in turn which led to more spending from people, In a way outsourcing brought many things to India like, money, jobs, and now the companies setting their sights to go local...as India has become a strong domestic driven market....

Yes out sourcing particularly BPO and KPO has brought good jobs for the country including money.

In addition of all the giants of the chain stores are now coming to India in near future there will be a need for additional vegetables and other food produce and agricalture will become profitable since packeged and branded vegitables and fruit concentrate will be in each and every house hold.

Today the farmer does not know what to produce and when to produce as a result out of app. 190 million tons of vegetables and fruits produced 30% goes waste. Once the so called giants will start purchasing directly under contract the agriculture as a whole will become profitable.

it is wrongly intrpreted that india became from third world to third powerful nation,

india at the end of day and with rising sun without any  doubt  super power of the world, but unfortunately America the poorest and dependent and unnecessary superpower has engaged our own brother's from politicians to aam admi engaged either religion conflicts, either party conflicts or caste confl;icts, tell me where india is lacking behind, take the case of  CWG, Even every european country criticizes on the functioning of CWG games, they have also criticized the AFRICA for conduting of world football cup, but what happened , the games were over with enthuisastic atmosphere, samre thing will happen inshalla , india will conduct the CWg game's with flying colour's , let the european countrie's eat the lollypop, but india will conduct  with the help of the  great son's and daughter's of of beloved india , the  bad eye's eying on our cultural  india will be left with  cheos and confusion , but it is our moral duty that we should appreciate everybody, no doubt small mistakes will happen but we must hel[p each other abd one day will come definetely when our mother india will a real super of the world and will remain peaceful with all other nation's-india has always  shown restraint and will show in future also but  we the family should act upon

Labor standards liberisation and market development

idea posted by Mathew Cherian Research Associate/Analyst, Western Michigan University

Wages have risen sharply and too asset prices. Markets have widened with derivatives. More widening of these markets will do even more good in future, like development of secondary bond markets, precious metals and credit derivatives. Mortgage markets if liberalised along with faster velocity for money can do even further growth for the country in the short run. Liberalisation of credit markets too is responsible for this position.

Another American ploy to keep our politicians in "Pseudo Happy " mood till President Obama's visit.

All bullshit by the Americans

Are you sure ?

The reason i am asking is because we still lack a lot of things to become a powerful nation. And it is on all fronts - Defence, commerce, trade, voting power, athletic prowess, governance, environment ....etal.

Also i am suspicious of any report that comes out of USA. Because the US is known to use such strategies where they would push more foregin direct investment by influencing their decisions into countries which are on their side or find favour with them. Possibly this was the best outcome of signing the NPT treaty etc.

At least on paper we can be declared a powerful nation irrespective of whether we actually are.

Domestic driven market

idea posted by Malika Business Analyst, Essar Group Of Companies

I think India became the 3rd most powerful nation from a third world country was mainly due to the huge population and the huge domestic market which we have and thats why we are seeing India get its GDP on the higher side...also the country is young at the moment with majority of the population being under the age of 30, so this has propelled the spending power of these people, a single instance where huge population of India is doing good for us....earlier we used to complain about India's population being so high, but now the same populations is working to our advantage and we easily weathered of our recession whereas everybody else suffered.

Thanks Sudip for referral. Yes I agree with Mallika and once the total domestic market is tapped sky is the limit for India along with more honesty.

I agree with you completely Ms. Mallika...India is really doing well due the big domestic market which we are having, we can easily do even much better if we are able to just concentrate on our domestic market there is still huge demand which is not been met at the moment, so surely good times ahead.

A major turnaround that is seen today is due to Government's LPG policy and planning commission initiatives that opened up the economy to global players and also enhanced manufacturing and services sector in domestic economy. leading to exponential growth in the past two decades

GIVE MORE SUPPORT TO AGRICULTURE

idea posted by STEPHEN SELVAKUMAR.J Assistant Construction Manager - Highways

India is equal to 4 Americas in Humen Resourse.  Agriculture is the correct way for utilizing our Man power. Half of our lands are not used for Agriculture because, now a days agriculture considered as a profitless work. All the harvesters go for selling  their lands except River sides. If our Government gives more support to the Agriculture Department and Joining the peranial Rivers with other Rivers, Constructing lot of DAMs accross the rivers then our Export quantity will more simultaneously our Economic condition also increase.  Other than food, all other things we ask from other countries.

India has always maintained a check and balance in the market. The stock market is highly contolled in India . The fall of the Lehman brothers proved that it was a hollow company with tall promises. But I NDIA  NEITHER there was something terrible but the market maintained a steady balance. It has been a safe heaven for foreign investors

Well guys , currently our economics isn't strong , India depends on heavy taxation too much rather than consentrating on business driven economy. Remember the recent survey where it was found out that India is the tuffest place to start business.

The title of Third most powerfull country will be given but because of out Armed forces. They will shift their spere of influence from South Asia to the World.

We still need lots of policies to be changed and that can be only done with the help of the govt.

Remeber even TODAY we are the fastest growing ECONOMY and not CHINA , just consider the billions that goes into swiss bank for corruption charges , and we still can achieve 9% growth rate. :)
