India is most likely to become the software superpower of the world by 2020. At present, the United States is considered the leader in IT software, with the country boasting of giants such as Microsoft, Apple, Hewlett Packard and Cisco.

But, with the increase in Indian engineers and Indian IT companies overtaking other IT industries, it seems India will overtake USA by 2020. It seems, the IT industry would become completely inward looking and go back to the 1990-96 era of irrelevance from a global perspective.

So users, how can India become global software superpower by 2020?

New investments in education and infrastructure development

idea posted by Prarthana Devi Database Architect/Designer, Leading IT Company

India can well become the 'software superpower' of the world by 2020, but all depends on investments in workforce development and country-level infrastructure. There should be three probable scenarios for it, which requires new investments in education and infrastructure development for supporting continued growth.

There can be a most promising in the future envisages the country to become the global leader in IT innovation by the end of the next decade provided the country's infrastructure and soft skill development is completed as per plans and India continues to maintain its competitive advantage. This scenario is possible when political and social disputes prevent any significant progress, despite incremental steps to improve India's infrastructure. The growth drivers for the IT industry include high growth of economy, primary education revamp, high quality labour pool and increased global geopolitical influence in the country.

I agree to this, we should focus on villages. Our metros are getting too much of fund, but there are 80% of population lives in tier 2 cities, towns and vilages , unless there is no devleopment in villages we can not dream anything big.

Yes I totally agree, its wonderfull to see India growing smart, but apart from some well known organizations lack of development in Infrastructure & basic needs is big worry especially as deep you go in villages. For becoming a superpower we need max literacy & awareness for the same is vital.

Till this point of time there were lot of software service company which gets the projects from western countries. This is 50% reach what this becoming a global superpower. The remaining 50% remains in products that India develops.

The product development companies should emerge and patents for those products should be registered by the Indian companies. As India become a "Hub of Software Products" as well in addition to Software services, then attaining the vision of global software superpower is not too far

Nurturing Creativity and Supporting Innovation

idea posted by Sujeet Vishwakarma Managing Director, RCA Group

Most of the Software Developments are based on creative thinking and implementation. But, in Our country we are taught right since childhood that there are set patterns of things happening around.

Maximum Creative ideas come from the people who have been free in thought and have had an outgoing(if not rebellious) attitude.

Most of these ideas are ignored or condemned, and criticized. They are not given recognition till they finally become something sellable. This kills a lot of growth prospects, so people either outsource themselves or their idea. finally leading to a foreign technology, or software being made out of our concept and Idea.

Next thing is that we donot regard the Indian Products as much. "Oh! Its German... must be great". "Don't say like this, It's the best. It's American." . We are still skeptical about our own products. There is less faith in our own thing.

Rigid Education system, bound work timelines, and restricted permissions of thought in a job, and lack of faith of peers in a paradigm shifting capacity of our creativity, all hinder this.

We need to let the brainstorming, be more broad, our growth more insightful and creative, and the system, change-welcoming.

:)

By inventing front end software products for common man.

Indian companies are making good with the current model of their respective businesses. But to become superpower, they should create innovative, user friendly front end softwares for common people which can be accessed easily.

Count the number of software products from India. We are still called the plumbers working for someone else. We need to create lots of software and put it on the web for free/trial/low cost so that our products and innovations can encourage more startups in this area

This data is good But we are discussing on how INDIA can become super power till 2020.... I think this data can only satisfy a bit to us but fact is that we are only working on the software or can say working on then application which is developed by foreign companies ,Even all the certificates on basis we claim that we are masters in IT belongs to foreign companies certification like SAP , sun micro, IBM certification and many more ....but no  certification from INDIAN company which is approved world wide or can say of which on the basis we can get in IT Sector ....I really love to see if our INDIAN Company get this kind of recognition world over .....so we need to work on it .....rather then smiling on just on BPO kind of business or working on pre developed applications .... I am criticizing it but this the fact .... I really want to see that MY country become a superpower ...We need to work on like TATA done in development of super computer ....

Thanks for the facts Ravindra and I am proud of it. But the point is, they are Indians who are not having direct impact on India for making it superpower. Somebody else is becoming superpower in their own fields with us(Indians).

since childhood we are getting education in english and in computer.this platform makes us to stand properly for software department.secondly in india we concentrate on science more due to which we are having more than 3 lack engineer per year.we are having brilliant institute like IIT and ISC i.e. in India going towards science side that also towards software is a dream of every body since childhood.

so i can say that due to good education, less fee structure we easily achieve our target before 2020 to lead  the world in software and will become a superpower

As a member this is what we can do:-

  • Write better code, and if you writing software for your living, mean it.
  • Have better people in management, no politics have discipline instead.
  • Understand your role and take ownership of the product.

patronise local creativity & wide use by all corporate bodies

Our concept that software is being used by giant like US, UK & our expertise find good market in these location is not sufficient to multiply software & become superpower. Rather the fact, it drives is that we are being exploited for their enrichments. It is always inter & intra dependent activities among business strategies. What we need to do is to create awareness among local companies whatsoever, to come forward to use more and more of software produced on international standards. Still we depend on versatile software from developed countries. Organisations such as ASME,AWS,NACE, SHELL, BP are far ahead in developing good software. This trend need to reverse & local companies need to patronise local products.
