During initial developments of technology in India, it was primarily used for computerising payrolls and financial accounting functions. It was looked more as a weapon to reduce manpower. Latter developments resulted in the creation of printed invoices but it really offered no advantage to organisations in the marketplace.

The business scenario has changed dramatically during the past 15 years in India. Global pressures and FII entry in stock markets in the last five years has changed it further. Manufacturing license or manufacturing ability is no longer a competitive advantage. National boundaries have melted. Free flow of funds and almost instantaneous flow of information has resulted in opportunities as well as problems.

Today, we have come a long way and almost every organisation has their basic organisational functions completely modern. But still we face a lot of competition from our other counterparts.

So users, how do you think India can have the most intensive workforce than their counterparts across the world?

Updating employees with recent technology

idea posted by Diya Mehra Executive search, ABC consulting

India should run parallally with all the lastest technology coming in the market so that we don't stay behing in the race of development. There should also be sufficient opportunities by the government for R&D and opportunities for young and new scientists and innovators to come up. In this way we can get a competitive advantage than our counterparts across the world.

Continuous endeavor to learn, to maintain good health and to serve sincerely to the job assigned are the basic requirements of every individual employee to create intensive work force. Both employee and employer need to be honest to each other in this learning process. In my opinion, it requires an integrated effort with individuals, companies, government for practically use the knowledge for an upper hand in competition with the counter parts.

Once the cut is taken, the only modification is to make do with it.Changing the pattern of education will consume your energy and resources. It had better to make best use of available talent and horn their skill and deploy them at the proper place.

I support Diya. This is the only way to update work force in this competitive age.To maintain economy, vibrant work force is an essential gradient.

Change the system and thinking

Why do we need intense workforce? If it is to make India as a hub of intellectuals and creative people, then there are two points I would like to highlight...

1. Indian education systems is based on very old methodology. It is creating "photo copying" people but not innovative people.  Creativity is being systematically killed with marks and grades and pressure of exams. Indian government should think of implementing more practical based approach where in business principles and global exposure is given to all students, whether the student is studying engineering or medicine or arts or commerce.

2. Government should keep politics away from students and should not treat them as next generation vote bank.  Its policy should create 5000 genuine entrepreneurs while in power for 5 years. These entrepreneurs will create knowledge hubs where from innovative solutions are generated and used across the world.

Thanks for raising this question in this forum. We are in a country of Billion people, we can do anything if we think together and be united.... Divided we will head to repeat history again....

MAKING EDUCATION COMPULSORY AND ELIMINATE RESERVATION BASED ON CASTE AND RELIGON

idea posted by NAGARAJAN B Freelancer, Freelancer

Two important factors to make Indian workforce competitive:-

Make th Education Compulsory: Every citizen must be provided an opportunity to educate themselves, mainly in rural India.  Since India is predominently agriculture basedm pecialized faculty like Agricultural engineering, biotech, water and soil management/technique must be introduced. Dr. Swaminathan, once advocated, that rural India must be provided with all education to understand crop cultivation to make India self-sufficient and manage its strength more efficieeriy. Education makes the people thin

Eliminate Reservation based on Caste and Religion: Merit and merit alone should be the criteria. Financial assistance must be provided to those not being able to pursue proessional degrees due to financial constraints but are brilliant.

Reservation in India has caused many talented people to go to other developed countries and they are contributing a lot there. We hardly emphasize the termination of reservation but the statistics are so stark that we will feel ashamed. If retained here, they can contribute innumerably in skill developement.Remove reservations and see the new face of skilled india

Bring out a Revolution

idea posted by Saleel Deshpande Sr.Architectural Co-ordinator, Dar Al-Handasah(Shair and Partners)

India as off today standing in the market is like a physically handicapped nation dependent on other countries for technology to develop its own infrastructure and market value.

We need to have a revolution in our basic educational system, in Industrial sector: How can we achieve it? The answer is simple yet very difficult …..Bring out a revolution.

We need to reform our educational system and introduce practical experience of min.3 yrs to all passing out graduates…be he/she may be of any faculty…professional, technical, commerce, science or Arts. By this I mean every graduate should be encouraged for innovations, new ideas, new experiments…which should be funded by the govt. under a special scheme …in which if the experiment is successful..It will be patented by the government and that person will enjoy benefits in sharing with the Government.

Unless and until we don’t have this reform in our educational system I don’t think we will have get a good stand in having our own intensive, capable work force.

Industrial revolution…private,semi-private and government sector should keep a small bit of self interest aside and encourage students, finance their experiments, and then if successful hire the student for their further development…or if a students want to start his own business should be encouraged for the same by funding him/her.e.g Take solar farms: Cant Government use the brains available in India to innovate some sort of new photovoltaic cells and solar panels which will trap more heat and energy but still will be small in size and generate more power than the traditional huge, bulky solar panels…I am sure other countries must be working on this and one day they will come up. If this panel is developed by India and used extensively for solar farming...Does anyone see shortage of electricity in India?

Multifaceted efforts

idea posted by Ravindra Sharma Managing Consultant, CHEF-India

Efforts are needed on several fronts simultaneously. as you correctly mentioned business looks for best.

Efficient and trained Human resource is one important aspect in many requirements. the ability of this resource to perform well as well requires an efficient support.

Unfortunately while revenues interest all of us matching efforts to prepare grounds, are tardy at best.

I believe, that Upto-date Technology apart, latest information, excellent skills & commitment to win are the essential ingredients, required, to have the most intensive work-force.

While we definitely have the last information and excellent skill acquisition capabilities, we lack the Japanese like, ‘work-ethic’ and the Chinese like, ‘commitment to win’.

stop brain drain and bring back Indians abroad

idea posted by kanukurthy sudershanrao Operations Manager, Andhra Bank

Indians are in the forefront in the technology, you can find Indians occupying top positions in the so called developed countries.  What India has to do is to make efforts to stop the brain drain from this country, create enough opportunities for the best brains, promotions should be on the basis of the abilities but not based on caste/favoritism et al.  Is this possible with the politics/political of all hues playing their cards on the basis of vote bank, dont think so.

Full swing industrialization is the key!

idea posted by Hasanul Islam Consulting Support as Social Development Expert, M/S Hasanul Islam

As far my thinking is concerned this need to undertake more initiatives for industrialization on the one hand and on the other purchasing power of the down trodden people have to be enhanced through creating jobs throughout the year. India is a vast and rich country populated by the poor persons. Poverty has to be eradicated through change in agricultural practices by introducing sustainable agriculture then poor people can be deployed in agricultural sector. While they have been fully employed they can be able to earn their livelihoods and lead lives like real human being. They would then access to food, education, health and recreational other facilities. These would have snowballing effect over the economic growth and industrialization would than be a reality. Therefore, the educated youths and the elites would be employed in a wider scale.
