Affordability and Quality of care are relative terms. Public Health comprises of four major input costs in Infrastrucure, technology, Drugs/supplies and Professional fees. Nation wide initiatives may be undertakn by Govt. to first collect data in each segment of input cost and then be professionally analysed to derive at regional pricing index. (Tough job!) Motivated administration then needs to mobilize adequate resources to bridge the gap on supply side with respective contributing factor and constantly monitor such initiatives to sustain the delivery of affordable and quality healthcare to public at large. Educating public on preventative healthcare may be considered as a different battle front!!!!! |

Dear Amar, Good thought, needs to mobilize adequate resources, and monitoring the affordability and quality, But question is who will monitor, THE CORRUPT HEALTH ADMINISTRATORS OF CENTRAL AND STATE GOVT, which can manipulate at a bribe ? my idea is Let thousands of NGOs work and meet regularly to make a pressure group on this syatem of bad management. Let thousands of flowers Bloom to make this society more equal.

Indian govt can promote the medical tourism in US and The European countries, where they can easily afford the world class Indian health care and the benefits received from that must be used in providing better treatment to the people in India. |

Yes I do agree upon this idea of Introducing medical tourism to offer affordable and better treatment to the public.

This is not an easy task, as every Indian can't participate in "Health Insurance Policy", but it should be applicable to each and every one - indirectly. Its funds should be nominal and collected through a special tax levied on fuels or other commodities. |

Health is the most unpredictable part of our life,as every field in medical treatment is becoming superspecility sector as many highfy equiped corporate hospitals are already operating and many more are opening very shortly. This is an segment where most of the Indian population find it very difficult to spend their hard earned money. If we look back last six decades ,Indian life span has gradually increased ,this is because changing life styles and medical attention they are getting. In comming days the medical treating is going to be costly affair at the same time you cannot predict your illhealth,in such existing situation indroducing Health Insurance Policy as compulsory to all citizen of India will be most wellcome move.Especially senior citizen population is increasing day by day and they all need reasonably costly medical attentions,at this stage their saved money will have reached the bottom of their balance sheet.A health policy will certainly going to help them enormously. Finally whether you are old or young you need money to treat youself,to lead healthy life,a plan like health insurance policy will come very handy.

In my opinion, huge chunk of the cost of healthcare is accounted for by drugs and medicines. So if the government can reduce the cost of medicines by controling the price or through subsidies, there will be a huge change in the cost of treatments which the common man can afford. |

The central budgetary allocation for health over this period, as a percentage of the total Central Budget, has been stagnant at 1.3 percent, while that in the States has declined from 7.0 percent to 5.5 percent. Unfortunate to Indian mass 53 years after independence National health policy was formulated in 2002, it shows government has difficulty in vision, it will not work for the downtrodden people, Safe water , safe air, safe environment and a balanced diet will not be provided by the government. so providing affordable health care is a distant dream. Cutting cost of medicine cant bedone due to pressure of pharma industries which will stop production if they dont get much profit, In this system most imp is Ruppaiah. After GOI has entered into WTO and accepted much debatable patent act, newer drugs will go out of reach of common man, can anyone stop it ? medical Insurance will not work for 1200 billon population. bcoz after all (Premium earned -(expenditures+ health benefit reimbursement) formula can work without govt. aids. and person with per capita income of Rs. 200 cant afford to pay premiums. medical tourism can bring money for big corporate hospitals and a few doctors, but cant bring health for big middle class of India. No simple solution of this giant problem exists. Need is proper implementation of infant national water policy of 2002, National health policy 2002, need is to build force which can force the govt to transparently implement the policies and punish the bureaucrats who corrupts the system.

Good one suresh...... very informative.... :) |
We have used this kind of tactics earlier also by using messages, warnings and many things in tobacco and cigarette packets. He who is concerned about his health has left intoxicating but the addicted had no effect on them. So, we can be sure of one... |
I think it will take time for the rural market to accept the product. The product should appeal the customers the price should be affordable. It should be easily accessible by people from all the segments of the society they should be informed about... |
