It is said that Indian healthcare to be a part of the next Big American dream. While the US health reform debate is still on the boil and over 50 million US citizens are not covered by health insurance, and Obama is trying hard for favourable reforms in the sector but it doesn't look like it is going to get through.

The healthcare system in the US is advanced and expensive as well. What about people who do not have insurance, and that is a huge number, and people are unable to find affordable healthcare for cardiac services, orthopaedic, organ transplants, neurology and many others. With situation at hand like this, how can India tap this, I mean there is a huge scope for countries like India where they can find affordable healthcare. So, how can India promote medical tourism?  please share your ideas here.

India should come up with health cities

idea posted by Bindu Narayan Product Development Manager, Care Biomedicals

According to me, India should now seriously concentrate on how Indian healthcare can be made available to the whole world, we have talent, resource and expertise, so India should tap this by setting up more health cities, for example there is a health city in Bangalore which is being done by Narayana Hrydayalaya, for which patients come from all over the world to get complex operation procedures done, and that to at a relatively cheap price, and the same treatment would have cost them nearly five times abroad, so they have done the right thing in setting up this huge health city where one gets all kinds of treatments, as medical tourism is getting bigger and bigger in the west it will be the right time for India to set up this kind of projects which will be popular and in a way it will increase the no. of employments that will happen through this.

Health cities is a good idea wherein we can promote healthcare tourism in an organized way. It will certainly boost the Indian healthcare sector along with real estate and overall employment opportunities. Government should jump in with subsidies and tax rebates as applicable for IT/ITeS.

Cost beneficial from other developed & developing countries

India has a rich heritage and today also with its large qualified human resource India has earned fame as the country with good doctors. Our doctors and nurses are serving other countries and making a big difference. But India has also another advantage over the big giants. It is cost effective. A heart surgery which drains a patient badly in US can be effectively be carried on in low costs in India. The truth became more prominent if we came south of India. Many patients from underdeveloped countries are poring in each day for treatment. So we have a proven record. Now its only for the governmental initiative is needed for luring paitents from the richer countries.

I also appreciate the views of dedicated cities for medicines.
