Indian IT majors are gearing up to scale the Chinese software wall. They are building a stronger bond with the Communist government, restructuring subsidiaries and hiring in larger numbers to tap the $18-billion IT market.

Infosys, which started its China operations in 2003 and hired only 2,000 people till then, is planning to add 1,000 more over the next one year. TCS is looking to take its headcount to 5,000 by 2014 from 1,100 at present. And Wipro plans to hire another 750 people in the next 15 months taking its workforce beyond 1,000.

Though IT firms have started to create some impact in the Chinese market, how can other Indian companies go for a better future in China??

Huge Manpower

idea posted by Namrata Pathak Accounts Manager, American Express

Maufacturing companies can target China as a hub for getting things manfactured at a cheaper rate. China has a large population of skilled & unskilled labours which can be utilised for the purpose. So, there is great opening for manufacturing companies to enter China and initiate their business.

Not Possible......

India cannot scale up the Chinese wall as there is a resolved Communist Govt. that drives the economic development, unlike India, where despite the best intentions & vision the actual development will have to undergo the rigorous scrutiny of Democratic Processes.

Yes, I support.

The Communist party is all powerful and all mighty in China and what the party says is the law. It supersedes all other unions that may (or may not) be present in each company/province. Hence, the labour there doesn’t have any choice other than to obey the party. And if the party / government want to increase revenue by manufacturing a product and for that if the item has to be manufactured at a low cost then it just slashes the pay of the worker by paying him peanuts. Of course the worker gets his food, shelter, retirement benefits, etc., given by the government. But his pay is pittance. This is more like Bonded Labour. That is why one gets products manufactured very cheaply in China.

It is not possible to do such kind of production in a democratic country like India, especially where there is unionized labour. Hence, it is not possible for any country in the world to match or scale the Chinese wall till the party is in power there.

And if the party goes, there would be chaos and China would be split up into different smaller countries (like what happened to Russia). Only if this happens, India would be able to scale the wall.

By being cost effective

Cost effectiveness is China's manufacturing biggest strength. Indian firms can either try to replicate cost effectiveness or try to offer differentiated products and services. The latter option may work if Indian firms are able to create a clear market positioning in Chinese markets.

I agree..cost effectiveness is the only thing that will get us going....We need to reduce our unnecessary overheads and cushy lives that most people are accustomed to before any progress is visible!!

We Shouldn't Be the chinese!

I don't think that the development seen in china is really a pleasant one.

Let's for one moment look at what they have got along with their "DEVELOPMENT"

Very polluted air,

Thickly populated Cities and Towns (jst a bedroom for a family!)

Dozens and Dozens of cars... and many more...

What i suggest is INDIA SHOULD CREATE A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY in harmony with nature and pleasant living.

I belive in quality of life, and not a development measured by jst moniteray growth.

INDIA SHOULD CREATE A NEW SPHERE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

Enter the market by collaborating with local companies

China's manufacturing industry is a very strong one and is hugely supported by the government in terms of political, financial support. So, to make in-roads into Chinese economy, Indian companies need to make tie-ups or joint ventures with local manufacturing companies and also recruit local people to avoid any kind of action from worker unions.
