Analyzing the project's interface requirements which always or often starts late and which focuses at times exclusively on creating a unusual user interface. But failing to conduct interface analysis in a timely manner increases the risk of project delays, overruns, and even failures. So how to avoid this and how interface analysis reduces risk in software project.  Do share your thoughts on this.

All stakeholders need to be identified and involved

idea posted by Manuel G. Pineda Project Manager, DorthaMae, Inc.

Interface analysis allows the team and the project manager to identify all the processes and sytems that interact with a new or existing application or process which is the domain of the project at hand. This is crucial in identifying the stakeholders who have impact on the project. Interface analysis therefore is the starting point in identifying the needs (requirements) of the stakeholders in order to gain their buy-in and in identifying the needs for testing. I have seen projects put on hold late in the development process, and even canceled despite all the cost already incurred, because a potential stakeholder has been left out of the requirements gathering and definition process.

yes, it is very important that there must be active participation of stakeholders from the beginning till the end..

Planning ahead

According to me the first step in interface analysis is to understand the system's boundaries, and the best practice is to build a model, like for example, a context diagram which shows interfaces as arrows between the system and the external components like (people, systems, and hardware). With this knowledge, a project manager and an analyst can begin discussions with the representatives or the owners of the components. The bottom line is to reach an agreement on which interface elements should get priority and how to budget and schedule the work. This helps in reducing the risk.

Building proto types or models

i agree with other person saying planning and all but what is more important to reduce risk is building models with multiple views, such as dynamic, behavioral, a structural, and control (business rule) views, gives you different perspectives that helps one to discover and cross verify the requirements properly. All these views may be then integrated with interface requirements in some fashion. So this very much helps in reducing the risk for that matter.
