Mr.Kesavanpandian i agree to your explanation and adding to what you said i would say that Both TQM and BPR embrace the same ideas and goals for organizational improvements and both encourage employee empowerment, teamwork, quality, change and focus on the customer. The main difference is in the means each program uses to achieve improvements.TQM aims at long-term continuous improvements in customer satisfaction and real costs, while BPR offers rapid and radical redesign of strategic processes to optimize the workflow and productivity.

Well TQM aims at continuous improvement of an organisation . BPR is a project which is risky and it is suitable for an organisation facing great challenges and deep trouble.

As defined by ISO 9000-2005, TQM is a management approach for an organization, cantered on quality, based on the participation of all its members and aiming at long-term success through customer satisfaction, and benefits to all members of the organization and to society. On the contrary, as mentioned repeatedly in this column, BPR is a project. By definition, projects have defined starting and end dates and are temporary in nature. While TQM is more of a mindset and culture building, ongoing approach, BPR focuses on identifying gaps in the process assets and bridging them at a given point of time. So, these are the differences. There are similarities too. TQM and BPR complement each other as BPR can be used to meet the business process improvement needs of TQM. ……..ISO 9000:2005 |

TQM is a continual activity in which course correction is an integral part. Re-engineering is an effort required as if to overhaul. |
