With an expected turnaround in global business sentiment, the Indian IT sector is again eyeing double digit growth. Some of the top technology companies have again started their hiring initiatives, while some have started looking at acquisitions clearly signaling growth opportunities. While Nasscom expects the IT sector to grow anywhere between 4%-7% in 2009, it expects the industry to deliver 10% growth in 2010.

The cautious optimism of the IT sector is evident from the Infrastructure Agenda 2010 survey results, where close to 44% of the respondents said they would spend slightly more. The bulk of the investments will be in areas where organizations can clearly reduce operational costs using IT. The survey results mirror this trend. 70% of respondents said they will increase spending on virtualization and server consolidation initiatives.

Thus I would like to ask you people how IT companies can develop new business models to grow in the present competitive market environment?

CLOUD COMPUTING!!

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

I am not an expert in IT. Would CLOUD COMPUTING be another good idea here??

Yes Makrand, even i do feel cloud computing will enable IT companies to come up with new business models in coming future. Services will be charged depending on its usage by customer.

Currently SMEs pays license cost as well as renewal cost based on either monthly or yearly basis. There are many SMEs which cannot afford SAP, Oracle, etc. business products due to high license cost. Same software can be provided by IT companies on lease basis. Servers will be hosted by the IT companies and they can provide services to many SMEs on need basis. This will eliminate the purchase of hefty licenses by SMEs and can take services from IT companies at much lower cost.

Cloud Computing will eliminate the need of hosting servers, infrastructure at customer's premises. The management of infrastructure and software will also be carried away by IT companies. This will reduce the cost significantly. CC will enable companies to transfer their Capex to Opex.

BI should be related to customer buying patterns

Indian manufacturers face great competition from countries such as China, and are naturally keen to improve their competitiveness using IT. Most manufacturers have an extensive and complex network of suppliers and customers. Hence, Business Intelligence (BI) tools that provide these companies with the required information to make timely and accurate business decisions, is critical today. Information should be related to customer buying patterns, monitoring inventory levels and benchmarking distributors or regions.

Rapid Adoption Of UC Tools should be done

idea posted by Ramdas Pawar Sales/BD Manager, Flex

With multiple industries spread across the globe, IT/ITeS firms are natural adopters of Unified Communications(UC) tools. Most of them spend on UC and video conferencing tools. Going forward, one can expect further acceleration in the adoption of UC tools. Besides reducing costs, using such tools will help improve employee productivity.
