Over the coming years India will able to provide the best possible healthcare at the cheapest possible price. This calls for coordinated engagement of the government and private sector in this price-sensitive market, Given the dearth of qualified medical personnel in a country like India Mobile phones can easily bring that required change. But, how mobile phones can usher healthcare revolution in India??

Mobile Phone vs rural healthcare

idea posted by Sanjay Bhardwaj Partner/Principal/VP, Health Management Solution
Penetration of mobile telephone do not translate into penetration of healthcare. It is imagination of IT/Software companies to converge healthcare with mobile telephony. Yes one day it will come true but given the demographic challenges of India it is gonna to take a long time before the technology can be effectively deployed in rural heartland of India. A few pilots may not necessarily reflect the success truly.

Apps can be developed that can assist in personal care, based on the weather and location of the mobile user, live feeds can be sent related to do's and dont's and precautions to be taken in specific locations. Also apps can help create a two way platform between doctors/pharmacists and the patients which will be helpful in updating medical advice and info. Apps can also be developed to have a repository of drug information and possible side effects and allergies in case of consumption. A lot of possibilities exist in this booming mobile revolution ..Impossible is nothing

Deep penetration of low cost mobile telephony

Deep penetration of low-cost mobile telephony, and according to Pricewater cooperhouse many of the mHealth programmes are well-suited for India’s rural population.  Apollo Group said the the first generation of mobile-health services will be provided at a nominal cost such as a dollar to ensure maximum outreach.  So something like in 50 Rs if one is getting quality healthcare from a certified doctor, what better than that....So, with nearly 600 million people having mobile phones, there will be deep penetration with affordable healthcare on people's mobile phones...

Creating a persistent clinical encounter through asynchronous mobile telephonic patient-physician conversations

idea posted by Rakesh Biswas Professor, People's College of Medical Sciences
What if patients submitted their complaints and their entire disease story over the mobile phone ( let us say over a few weeks) and all the information was stored in an intermediate area to be processed and acted upon by physicians? Would this add a tremendous support for the otherwise hurried and largely investigation dependent practice of today with less and less time for listening? the patient can consult with doctor using video call facility available in mobile. in this case the doctor can be stationed in one location and will monitor or direct his/her attendants/nurses stationed at different rural locations.
