Family matters

idea posted by Darshana Sawant HR Manager, Leading IT services company

Nobody is interested in knowing anything about your family and even if they are you do no need to tell them. It is just a matter of gossip and remember gossips reduce your productivity..

Depends on the person

Always remember to disclose any information only on basis of "NEED TO KNOW". The management & HR might want to know about your family background, etc., whereas you need not reveal it to others.

Depends on how close and how much of a relationship you want with that person.

IT depends on the person. No need 2 disclose ur all personal facts to anyone but knowing/disclosing few facts may help u to act rationally.Importance of Informal communication channel cannot be ignored.this has to be added as a strategic tool.

Give out what is required

I don't think that one should give out all about oneself to the management as well as people involved with you in work. A certain amount restrain is required. One as to assess and judge as to what is required to be told and what has to be held back. It is advisable not to disclose certain details like one's financial position.

There should always be a line separating what could be shared and not shared. It need not be based on the confidentiality or the importance or whatever about the subject. It mainly depends the other person ad the liberty he/you has(ve). And who knows what the other guy would do with the piece of info. But be honest in whatever you disclose to maintain your credibility.

Add your argument:

Keep safe distance

idea posted by SHRIKANT MANOHAR DANKE Project Manager, Phadnis Infrastructur Ltd
One should not mix professional life with it's family life.It is always better for an individual to keep collagues of work away from family & from family friends.

I prefer this answer as this comes closest to my point of view. Discretion is definitely the better part in personal matters. People should use the "need to know" principle in releasing information about themself. Always remember that the spoken word is your master where as the UN-spoken word is your slave.

Allow the quest to decide

idea posted by Ravindra Sharma Managing Consultant, CHEF-India

There is no point speaking out of relevance or context and as long as one is answering what the questionnaire is asking for with fair understanding of the reason..... there is no need to even think of this as a subject.

whether to reveal and if, what and how much are dependent on the level of rapport we attain with the concerned individual. can we have a preconceived notion that one should have limitations for ever?

idea posted by neha singh Content Editor, Avestia Corp
Every thing is so hasty all because ppl are not aware of what they are doing and want to cover up their shortcomings. When something goes drastically wrong and there are investigations, you will have to trace the last drop of blood!!! Why can't families be known so that the background of the individual is highlighted!!!

lawless society

idea posted by Munshi Ramchand Retired
In India where the society is not restrained by law it is hard to implement the idea of "how much should people know". Ours is not a country made of law-abiding citizens and hence even if you try to be professional, there are people who will use gossips and rumors against you because they know that they will not be punished even if they are wrong. In India religion and caste are important and whether you are right or wrong depends on those two words.
