I was reading some information regarding Smart Grids, so this bought a question again in my mind. So here I put forward the issue.

Smart grids introduce information technology to electricity transportation, allowing energy to flow in two directions. This gives them a superior capacity to integrate both small and large-scale renewable energy into the grid. It allows households to produce their own renewable energy and sell it back to the grid.

Smart Grid Implementation

idea posted by Vineet Prakash Sales/BD Manager, Tata Power

Smart grid technology has a handful of merits or advantages which will be really useful to the Indian households. I think it will rather be a correct decision to implement it in India.

A thing that can be measured can be controlled. All Smart grid ideas lead us towards mesurements of Electrical values at number of locations which are not mesured till now. Based on these values, fuzzy logic is created to control the network. In the end of it following benefits would eb available-

1. Higher Efficiency in Power Generation and utilisation

2. Quick response to Customer demands

3. Flexibility in operations leading to better security of networks.

Above all it will provide many more new opprtunities for employment. Meter readers will be freed from the useless task that they are doing now of "just reading the meters all their lives".
