A latest report by Forrester suggests that India would become the third largest country in terms of internet users across the globe. The report takes into account an average growth of 10-20 percent in online users in India. The report also forecasts the total number of internet users worldwide would touch 2.2 billion by 2013.  Currently the estimates for total online population in India ranges anywhere between 50 million to 80 million users. China currently has 300million+ online user, it recently overtook US in terms of online user strength. So How the Telecos can really increase the Broadband Penetration?

Superior Telecom Infrastructure

idea posted by Radha Sundaram Sales/BD Manager, Bharti Airtel

If there should be more penetration of broadband then there is the need of superior telecom infrastructure, which would form the backbone of broadband growth in India. The growth rate of 10-20% for India’s online population is easily achievable by looking at the youth oriented demographics of the country. Then there is  English speaking population in India is much better than even China which has rode its online growth on the back of heavy availability of vernacular content.

Mobile Mesh using wifi and wimax

idea posted by Ted Green President, Bikini Computers

Here is my idea. Use our software, and take a bunch of older computers 700 mhz-1gig, and teach people how to create mesh networks sharing resources, both intranet  ( for each community) but also Internet, giving each family the same access as another. The network can be supplied with 2-3 different types of connections at different locations in the community making redundancy for everyone. Again its just using older technology to create wireless mesh. You add an approved card, and load the cd loaded. Log into our few web site and your up and running.....

I know it works, we have built networks in cities up to 50K that have 1.2 million visitors per year, all supported on mobile mesh....... and the cost was less that $50,000 USD  compared to most cities spending $700,000 up to several million (USD)

Another major change is Node (access point) is not just on the net, but is actually part of the Internet serving the local community, and recycling older computers. Last you can use WiFi , which is unlicensed in most of the world, to develop your network.

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

Today everyone is dependent on the internet without any age barriers therfore everyone will be interested in getting a connection.Internet uasge can be increased by introducing good offers which will attract more and more users. The offer should be one that provides them good speed internet connection at a reasonable price.

Day by day, the number of Internet literates are rising in India. We produce the highest number of Software engineers in the whole world and with such a high scale of Internet Literacy rate and growing rate there is no doubt that India will become the maximum number of Internet user country by 2013
