Now a days companies have realized that the only way they can be ahead of this competition is by being efficient in their supply chains. Effective supply chain today demands a robust value addition to the entire process.

So, how can value be added to the supply chain process??

Procure quality materials

idea posted by Surabhi Sinha Project Manager, Ispat Inds

The best way to add value to your supply chain is by procuring quality raw materials. Quality input will end up in quality output. Thus companies should see that the materials they purchase are upto the required quality standards.

thanks Surabhi for referal. i agree with kumar.Quality input may not give qualititative output.get right thing at right time and deliver equally at correct time.but supply chain will be greatly affected if it contains inventory other than spec.so practise JIT (Just In Time) so that one can avoid costs that reccurs.having maximum QCO's in manufacturing process will certainly strengthen supply chain by reducing lead time.

yes i agree with your view but i would like to add that sometime good input doesn't give the good output if the timing is not adequate. So to add value to supply chain one must ensure the procurement of quality material in right quantity at right time.

if we do proper planning proactively it adds value in your supply chain proper scheduling, supplier capacity consistency of market groth these all things plays an important role in supply chain if we know how much we require we have to plan only for that requirement not more than that 3M technique will be usefull in that case

I agree with Rajagopal...The Concepts of Lowest tender, lowest bid acceptance r out the window, except for low value inputs in the Supply Chain...For all your 'A' category goods and services...Vendor Quality,Dependability and 'Value for Money' pricing r very important factors...and seeking and selecting the right vendor, and building a long-term relationship is of prime importance....Of-course...periodic evaluation to ensure no 'slip-up' is equally important....Sushil Kumar.["We-Care" Consultancy Services.]

SCM is an important function since every industry is dependent on Vendors or Sub-contractors. Quality Vendors and proactively scheduling is the key to an Effective supply chain. If timely components are available the hrly / daily / weekly / monthly targets are met. Though there could be few changes in the production plan due to the change in requirement of customers. Else we end in Chaos i.e - Line stoppages, Additional freight both for incoming and outgoing. The minimum stocks of FG or components maintained should be able to cater the same. In many cases of line stoppages it could be the bad planning on the organisation stage not to have communicated the schedules well in advance. The planner should plan effectively based on the different lead times that is required.

Choose Best Service to your supply

While we are select the raw material definetly we will select the quality material. But if the supply service is poor.If the material is so good if it not reaches in time then the link may colapse so we have to look for best service to supply the material. It is most important for value add for supply chain.

Use "KANBAN" System

best way is to use KANBAN system in supply chain and store management,

It includes a lot of sub systems and processes, but a very effective way of eliminating losses from the supply management,,,,

The Ideas generated here only touch upon the "parts" of the total 'CHAIN'...Now as a Mgmt: Consultant specialising in SCM , I would want to divulge too much of my USP here...suffice it to say...that One should look at supply chain Holistically as an 'End to End' Solution to optimise a Company's Performance , Profitability and Marketability....
