Agreed, faculties should also be given equal opportunities to what students get. This will encourage the faculties to impart quality education & walk that extra mile with the students.

Another way of retaining good faculties is by giving them lucrative incentives & promotions. this will boost the morale of the faculties & their performance will keep on improving. Thus IIT's should skim out a better incentive & promotion plan for faculties. |

While new faculty are important, a stable faculty is fundamental. We need to retain our best faculty. The key to retention is a combination of a globally competitive compensation and an attractive working environment, which we will do everything in our power to deliver. Despite the external challenges of the global crisis and devaluation, IIT faculty salaries should be increased. Combined with the favorable tax regime. However, this is not enough. We need to pay significantly more than the best US and European institutions to attract the best faculty to India. So over the next few years, IIT's across India should continue this process and increase average salaries by a minimum of 15% per year. This will mean average increases of over 50%. |

Yes, to get world class faculties we need to give them world class compensation. This will keep them motivated to work harder & not to skip their jobs.
Thus we must come up with some good salary structure that appeals to the faculties.

In my point view, world class faculties can be attracted by better facilities (infrastructure, providing resources for job performance, welfare), Motivation (involve them in the process of academic decision making, to conduct research work), Recognition (when they have done very good job whether it is small or big, award/reward to the better performance) and implement latest pay scale.
Then, world class faculty can be attracted, nurtured and retained.
