With liberalization of trade, in recent days a number of firms are entering into world trade. Even small-scale industries are entering into export/import market and looking for overseas markets to do business. International trade may be started with practically without or very minimal investment. But, to be successful in this business, one should have good knowledge in marketing, documentation, foreign exchange aspects and also well versed in the changes of policies of the government and incentives available for export/import. So how to become an Export/Import business success? share your views on this.

Mr.Muhammad i think the same way as you.First of all you need to identify the segment which you want to target and try to leverage on that.without knowing who will be your customers and how they can benefit you will take you and your business nowwhere.

According to me one should do a proper research before starting his export/import business, by knowing his competitors and the services provided by them, by doing this one will be in a better position on which lines he should do good or be better than the competitor.. so what are the other factors that'll do good in this business....

Doing the market research or not is not a big deal,

first of all the person should decide which industry he need to serve, and the most importent thing is that, the perosn should have the deep idea aobout the industry he is going to serve,

he should know the factors like

1. Competition

2. Market

3. The end customer

4. The pricing

5. The major market sectors,

6. The govt regulations or , rebate and other incentives from the govt and industrial bodies,

After considering all these factors only i person can start an Import/Export business,

Thanks,

Rajesh

Time tested techniques of Marketing

idea posted by Aditya Sharma Insurance Advisor/Analyst, LIC OF INDIA, ICICI LOMBARD

In every trade there are timetested techniques of Marketing. They work in all types of trades. It include international trade also. So there is no separate technique for success in export/import trade. Ofcourse Market research and guirilla marketing are tools which can be of great success in export/import trade.

As the policies / procedures in respect of excise duty / other taxes n levies goes on changing, it is necessary for a person or company in exim business to update all necessary parameters for on going as well as expansion sales. There should be separate person / databank or section to monitor these aspects to interate with the rank n file of exim deptt.--T.PATTABIRAMAN, VICE-PRESIDENT, MOHAN MUTHA EXPORTS--

Yes agree with kamal here, mainly one has to have a great knowledge when he is starting and more importantly know what are his strengths where he really wants to, just because everybody is getting started up during recession, as most of them do....one should have a real passion towards what he is doing and commitment towards his business venture.

I agree with the research part, but what more important is customers and how can you customize your products to meet foreign customers needs is much more important than anything else according to me..

TAXES involved in Import -Export

idea posted by Rishi Khanna Product/Brand Manager, Mirc Electronics

For a business to be sucessful the most important thing is that one needs to be aware of any taxes involved in both importing and exporting goods. Customs regulations on imports and exports will need to be clarified before you start. Make sure that everything you are moving is legal and acceptable between countries. If you are done with this, you are few steps closer to the success.

Yes it is, retail sees a huge demand in the urban crowd. And soon will have a better market in the rural too.
Yes private label is one way to increase the margin. But it should not become a skimming strategy. Compared to fmcg, private label will work in food products because there is no standard price anywhere.........
