Being technically good at your job isn’t enough today; you must also be able to communicate, influence and motivate colleagues and clients. Making an immediate positive impression is essential for success and you cannot ignore the fact that people are more likely to want to do business with those who are self-aware, comfortable in their own skin’and confident with who they are.

And in that regard ask yourself, what’s your brand identity?

Personal branding is not all about self-promotion and marketing tactics; it is more fundamental than that.

So, how to brand yourself?? Please do share your views on this....

First write qualities that distinguish you from the rest

Employees who can brand and market themselves well carry an image that gets associated with not only their brand name, but also the organisation’s .

However, employees should not resort to bragging or pretence. It’s a careful study of oneself, in a quest to understand what one excels in and then leveraging on those attributes to create a brand called “me” . What distinct ‘feature’do you have and how does it benefit the people around you? What do you do that adds measurable, distinctive value? What do you do that you are most proud of?

You must make yourself visible.Without visibility, you can’t be distinct. Sign up for extra projects. Eliminate ‘good enough’ thinking. ‘Good enough’ thinking means doing the bare minimum to get the job done. Challenge yourself to go the extra mile.

Be available and communicate effectively in social and professional circles. Improve yourself.Try to keep raising the bar on your own performance and competing with yourself. It is important to be visible in the system, participative and collaborative, which will help build a brand for oneself.

Raise above average .Acheiver distintive results.

To create your own brand first get noticed, which is possible by distinctive achievement.

Then go for SWOT analysis. Build on ur strengths and opportunities.

Socialise with opinion builders in the industry.

Never allow ur performance tocale down to average levels.

One should do a self critical analysis. Look around and try to take all the positive things from various professional aqantances. Turn around the company or for that matter exceed the requirments expected out of you.

On doing amd practising this one will be rewarded that is the first step in becoming a "Brand".

As you move forward you will be watched not only by your own company but by others and here compecency should not set in like"I have done excellent job". If you think your performance below your standered you will be seen as "Brand" by one and all.

The day you receive a offer for change you may think you have been able to disinguish yourself from others and that is the branding is all about.

The brand is name addressed with respect. The respect is earned through attitude which is a guiding force to constructive works. In other words person is liked by his result. The result begets confidence, assurance, fame(length and breath). And the brand is born.

You always can emphasize your achievements for self branding. But it should be accurate and measurable.

Add your argument:

branding one self is done for self promotion

idea posted by kanukurthy sudershanrao Operations Manager, Andhra Bank

in many organisation branding one self is done for self promotion rather than orgainsational goals, one can see umpteen examples of people in positions depending on their subordinates for the actual work and also taunting the achievements their subordinates as their own

Thanks for invite Divya, yet am not convinced...

Does one require to convert one's knowledge and skills into a commodity.

If the company requiring services fails to spot the requisite talent it is their loss at best.

As an individual or professional my aim ought be focussed on best quality in delivery and make all efforts to stay abreast. Full stop.
