We all want to invest in mutual funds but however, while filling in his investment application, we are perplexed with the various investment options available viz. growth, dividend pay-out, dividend reinvestment and bonus.

Despite being aware of what these options meant,  we may not decide which was most suitable for us.

So, how to choose the right MF scheme???

Mutual funds are mainly depends on the groups who manage the public fund. Howevr the majorly considerations must be given to tax saving oppertunities. like 80c etc etc.

I think it again depends on the objective of the investment of the individual.

Add your argument:

Fund pool size

I think this is very important in choosing a fund, rather choosing an AMC

Relative Performance & Variance

Once you have decided on the investment horizon(short/medium/long) and objective (Regular income/Growth) you have to analyse the performance of the funds in the selected category with that of the peers and the bench mark index and you might be able to find the best performing fund in the category which brings in better returns and consistency and the variance is low .If u have two or more funds which have the same performance select the one based on low fund costs and age of the fund .

To add to it, the variance must be minimum.

If you wish to generate regular income, the best option would be the dividend pay-out option. However, if a regular income is not required, dividend reinvestment is a better option. Moreover, the dividends declared are exempt from Dividend Distribution Tax* (DDT) and are also tax-free in the hands of an investor.

This is yet another benchmark to choose a fund.

dividend reinvestment

hi, having decided the fund and scheme based on performance, the option to go for may be the 'dividend reinvestment' for those who cannot adequately follow the market. this option enables one to accumulate more number of units whenever a dividend is declared. later on, increasing units give you more return either by way of dividend or at the time of redemption.

Although everybody has given the right views but we can't choose any MF scheme for investment only consider the single or 2 factors.

There are many factor which will considered to invest in MF i.e.

1) AMC

2) Fund Manager

3) Term

4) Size

5) Right time - In case of choosing the sector fund & index fund.

There are many different, views on the subject. With over 35 popular Funds, Unpredictable market, it is not an easy task. The top rate safe funds become less attractive since, the long term benefits, they offer are minimal. Others carry risks.

Before investing in Funds, One must understand, how the fund house is, steering the market and how transparent their operations are? I remember reading an article by How is the fund house conducting in the market. I recall reading an article by R. Govindon where he advises investor to focus on the functioning of the fund houses and not on what percentage they offer. A successful investor will evaluate the past performances. Mutual funds and stocks have their own personality and identifying the right personality of a fund will help choose the right scheme.

Get your basics right; your appetite for risk, portfolio of the Fund and the right scheme, before making your investment. Portfolio of a scheme is an important factor, if you are unaware of the sudden change in the tactics of the fund, then it may hurt you.

Some people invest in funds to save Capital Gains. These schemes have 3 years lock-in period and yields are low. Regular high yield income schemes are flexible. Short-term investment plans are usually from one to six months. If you are looking for safe capital appreciation invests, in balanced funds for minimum of 3 years.

Investing in mutual fund schemes is more than giving the check and signing an application form. For investment in a fund, you must select wisely and monitor the selection, periodically.

In today time when the market is largely volatile and highly influenced by the FII's, i believe that a AMC with good AUM can only survive.

We have examples of the AMC's which have dissolved in the past few years which had small AUM ..

The investor should look at the AUM of the AMC and the fund he is investing.
