According to recent findings -

India is still primarily an offshore engineering site, a software factory where work can be done efficiently and cost effectively, according to Shashank Samant, president of managed strategic services at Ness Global Services Inc. in San Jose, California, which offers outsourced product development from India to small and medium-sized ISVs (independent software vendors) in the U.S. and Europe.

In terms of innovation, I would like to discuss how innovation can be brought in the workplaces so that IT companies can contribute more in terms of new products, technology that can bring a change in future path. Ideas are welcome with this regard.

Break the rules.

idea posted by Leena Pawar Tech Architect, IT Infotech

Thanks for this wonderful idea contest Mr.Karthik

Looking at new ways of organising work and implementing changes in the organisational structure to improve performance should be seen as an important form of innovation. Innovation is all about breaking the rules. Challenge the workers to first state what the rules of the game are, for the industry, mainly which are unwritten and unspoken assumptions, and then, second, find ways to break them, to create value for customers. This does not imply, of course, breaking laws or ethical principles.

Workplace innovation can take many forms like employee empowerment schemes, knowledge management policies, teamwork models, continuous skills development and learning plans, flexible work organisation arrangements, transparent communication practices, encouragement and nurturing of ideas at all levels of the organisation. It is important that the process and results of workplace innovations are monitored.

Marvelous gist for innovation, Leena. In the nutshell you got to break the box and design a new one.........again a new challenge for innovation  springs up.........then again break the box and innovate and design a new box..........so on and so forth........

Reward innovator

idea posted by Krishna Software Testing, Ness Technology

One of the best ways to promote innovation culture at workplace could be rewarding the innovator. Come up with a plan/program how you measure the innovation contribution i.e. how much is the impact of one's innovation. Accordingly, collect points for a period based on the impact of one's idea/innovation and reward the winners in a big way. Thus employees would get motivated to think out of the box and contribute. Also promote a culture of making people feel 'no idea is a bad idea' and encourage them more and more to think out of the box and to contribute.

Allocation of seperate time and resource by management

idea posted by karthik Tester, Excelacom Technologies

Management of a company can allot extra time, money for the employees to go for innovative things that need not be related to their regular work. For instance google allots their engineers 20% of time to work with things that they are passionate about. This approach can make the people to think something apart from their regular work and develop new product or technology in a specific field. Also the employees would feel a change in their regular work style. Though every one at work is busy at their regular work schedules, going a way apart to innovate new things can certainly bring benefits to their career and the company they work for. Also Management should allot more resources that would be required to support the research, innovative tasks.
