I think this is a Must read for everyone.......Employees’ deep-rooted psychological problems can easily wreck workplace atmosphere. Indian companies are slowly waking up to this fact.

A manager of a Bangalore-based IT firm was upbeat about the growing profit margins that his division was generating, when he realised that all was not well with one of his star performers. She had started frequently complaining that she could not sleep at night, while her husband was away.

All hell broke loose one night when the manager received a call to hear her screaming that there was a man in her bedroom and her husband was not in town. A quick check by the alarmed manager showed she was alone, but the lady refused to believe anybody. This is not just one case like this, there are many cases like these lately in organizations.

And as India Inc’s appetite for hiring pulls in people from all sections to work in alien conditions, emotional and psychological problems — the product of traumatic childhood experiences or dysfunctional family set-ups — are coming to the fore and providing a different kind of challenge to HR managers.

So, How to deal with this emotional baggage problem??

What ever might be the problem, if you see an unusual behaviour in an employee and see if the problem persists with the employee, then having few sessions with counselling will do good to them, and the counsellor can give some tips on how to deal with some problems, as these are the things which will be kept under wraps by many of them as they don't tell these things to anybody and hardly discuss things which are deep rooted in them, and counselling will surely help in that regard.....

And in the above example in the description about a lady........The lady in question agreed to talk and within few minutes the counsellor realised there was a serious problem. Her work-related stress was merely a symptom for a serious case of mental trauma caused by sexual abuse as a child. She had kept quiet about it all these years without informing her friends, family and even her husband.

Dealing with emotional baggage can be a tough problem for many to handle. In a situation like this a person really needs counseling so they can move on with their life and the work environment can be improved. Bringing emotional baggage into the workplace is unprofessional but the person should be allowed to get help. A person needs to take a break from work and get the help and support that they need.

THE SIMPLEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE WAY IS TO KEENLY LISTEN TO THE AGGRIEVED.PERSON,WHO,WHEN UNDERSTANDING THAT SOMEBODY IS COMING FORWARD TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS VERY RELIEVED,EVEN BEFORE GETTING A SOLUTION.EFFECTIVE,HUMANE COUNSELLING TAKES CARE OF THE REST.

as a trend seen many of the stressed and depressed employees aren't comfortable opening up.they get mere disturbed at the glance of what they want to avoid.its better to conduct yoga classes and keep an isolation chamber with soft music...where the depressed can go and relax...away from the useless chit chat and grape wine...

I know most probably this is not an Idea, but my opinion is that a true professional is not supposed to take undue pressure and stress due to the work load. And I have due respect to your idea that some times it would be difficult to handle proffessional and personnel life in a balanced way. In such cases, I feel it is very rare councelling is a must. Thanks,Darshana for broaching such a nice subject.Apart from the woman mentioned , the employees are now a days carrying a baggage of emotional conflict. This is prevailing both at work place and at home.At home they should try to keep their family equation in tact. At work place .i would like that HR must devise a scheme for destressing .The employees must be allowed to speak frankly about the work place environment,targets,irregularities etc.This will help them to lessen their work place stress and feel "happy go lucky " in improving the organization.These destressing sessins are now must for the welfare of the employees and the organiztion.

Clean human relations

Human relations these days are deteriorating year after year, be it our Home, work place or social get together. Every one of us know that it is bad to heart others feelings. But, still relations are affected. Why? It is because we want others to change first. We never realise that change starts from self. First we have to be fair to others and then we can expect others to respond. Frankly, I do not agree with this idea also. Because, when I treat the other person humanly I do not expect him/her to respond accordingly. Why because, It should be the attitude of every human being woth his/her salt, that is to be humane. Our work place is no exception. All through my life, I have not heart anyone so far, consciously, or for no reason. In the work place also inter personal relations should improve. When a person, being offended, feels that It is part of life, then emotions do not get strained. When emotions are not strained every thing around us looks good.
