Most offices have a few employees who simply can’t seem to get along with others. Someone who is needlessly arrogant, unwilling to contribute ideas, refuses to participate in activities and ignores requests for help or guidance.

Dealing with Mr/Ms Uncooperative is often a task that leaves employees at too much of stress and creates unnecessary problem at the workplace. So, what should they do, should they stick to the sweet requests, resort to harsher means, or simply ignore the culprit?  How to deal with this situation people??? Share your views on this....

Respond properly

idea posted by Jyoti Kapoor HR Manager, Cybage Software

I think the key to dealing with an uncooperative coworker is to respond right. You need not give a quick comeback. Take a moment and think, compose yourself and give a deliberate, even answer. Essentially, differing the response time ensures that you answer from your head and not your heart.

Never retaliate in kind  this is a potentially disastrous mistake that most employees make. Maintain your dignity at all times. “Even when your co-worker is killing you with his blatantly uncooperative behaviour, try to be civil and courteous.  smile and keep the anger seething inside to yourself. If you react the incident will circulate as office gossip and may reach your superiors in an inaccurate manner,”  Refrain from discussing the troublemaker behind his/her back and don’t get into sarcasm.

"Interdependency" will get them on the track...

thanks for referral Jyoti...nice topic...

I think in any organization & even in personal life...we all dependent  on each other for something or the other..Its about give & take...u'll receive what u r giving [As you sow so shall you reap], so clearly yet politely make them aware of this fact that at some point of time even they have to/ need to depend on other co-workers & ask for personal or professional favor/help to achieve the desired objective or in any kind of difficulty,   cooperation - which is a base of organization culture, or [ ask hr to conduct a team - work or other behavioral training] & even if they continue with the same attitude, then  all other employees can unite & follow/practice  "Sampoorna Asahkar"  with those "extra smart" people.

Make them feel unsecure

In my opinion insecurity can change in person. if a Mr/Ms Uncooperative feels unsafe of his/her position because of her behaviour it will lead him/her to change his/her behaviour

We should consider Team as Family

idea posted by Sanjeev Bhandarkar Regional Commercial Manager, Bharti Teletech Limited
We should not talk about gender when we work as a Team ... Do we do the same in our own Family ? The Team leader has to take care of team member and need to understand the behaviour/ attitude etc. also make them understand importance of Team.

BE NORMAL , COOPERATIVE AND DON'T GIVE IMPORTANCE TO NON COOPERATIVE PERSON.

idea posted by rakeshbhatnagar GM Projects., wig brothers india pvt.ltd.

EVERY ONE MUST WORK AS USUAL, WITHOUT GIVING ANY IMPORTANCE TO Mr./ Ms. UNCOOPERATIVE AND ASK HIM FOR THE WORKS WHICH HE IS EXPECTED TO DO.

NO ONE MUST SHOW ANY ARROGANCE TOWARDS HIE / HER ATTITUDE THIS MAY WORK AND HE HAS TO COME DOWN AFTER A CERTAIN PERIOD.

IF WE CHANGE OUR ATTITUDE WE MAY LOOSE SOME OF OUR ORIGINAL QUALITIES AND LAKE SOME WHERE IN WORKS,THIS WILL BE NEGATIVE FOR OR A SUCIDIAL ATTEMPT FOR SELF.

Assign them lots of work which needs others intervention and keep the person to be responsible for completing the work. While getting the work done from others, he himself will learn how much important it is to help others and succeed as a team.

I have experienced that very often people are uncooperative because they themselves are pre occupied. I feel that instead of labelling, approach them as friends.
