No matter how knowledgeable you are and how much research you do, there will come a time when someone disagrees with something you write. Might be a friend on Facebook or a stranger on Twitter or your blog. How you handle a differing opinion will speak volumes about you and can either enhance your personal credibility. When you encounter conflict in face-to-face work environment, you can talk out the matter. But, how do you handle it in the world of social media?

Block the Contact !!

idea posted by Satwinder Singh Program Manager, Confidential

You can anytime block viewers while social networking.. Since social media is meant to socialize, one must learn to handle everything that comes to them, be it within their interest or not..!!

In case there is some vulgar thing used or shown or shared, you have the capacity to block the users or contacts, etc.. along with deleting  or hiding facility at every point to make your personal credibility intact..!! trust me..

Make sure that the things we speak are accurate. If there is any misinformation, correct it in a helpful and non-combative way. Be sincerely and profusely apologetic if we've done wrong. When you respond, be open to reactions and answer questions.

Understand and then RESPOND!!

Out there in social networking sites there are always people who will deliberate, chide and then create trouble!! Like it or not, I have been a participant abd a recipient with these commonly faced issues right here on toostep.com!!

Of course you need to be very resilient in your approach to such issues!! You have to UNDERSTAND the reason why you have attracted such a comment or action first. Comprehend the situation and then decide whether the action or comment solicits a response!! Also to remember is the fact that if the person is a miscreat deliberately maligning you, give him a fitting reply!! But more often than not you would find that being stoically silent is the most effective weapon that you could employ!!

Important at times or most times is that you need to RESPOND!! there has to be a coversation that needs to take place so that other readers can realise and understand the POV's of both parties and then decide what is more influential!! Remember that this is one media that is VIRALLY INFLUENTIAL!!

If we need to respond, then do it, where the situation started. Slow reactions are bad reactions. Things move at light speed on web 2.0 and we don't want something to spiral out of our control before we get in a response. By responding quickly we can ensure rapid communication as well as achieve the potential to keep the controversy within the community in question.

Might sound out of place, but believe you me this is the best solution to resolve any conflict. As long as you are not getting directly hampered by other persons disconnect with your thoughts, its better to ignore rather than getting in argument. You have already made your point by posting it there, its them who have to take their stand and if its against your, so be it.

Don't take things personally and provide your justification...

Don't take things personally, chances are the negative comment is not about you personally. It’s about something that you wrote. They’re just saying that they don’t agree with what you wrote. And take this as a constructive criticism and provide your justification in a humble way to have a healthy discussion further. In this way I am sure we will be able to bring out best in people.
