I agree with you Diya. One should remember if he or she is disrespected what will be there state of mind and the same will happen if you disrespect others.
There are some basic ground rules, one can follow that would work at most workplaces. Try and be as friendly as you can with most all people at your work place, never prying in their personal affairs, always ready to help, where possible, never criticizing them or your boss. Listen to them patiently, when they make a suggestion, give credit where it is due. It is not always easy but this is the least, you would need to do, if you want to earn their respect.
A 'Senior' should never remember that he is 'Senior' and a 'junior' should never forget that he is Junior.

Develop Listening Skill! If you are a good listener, you would provide more space to others to ventillate and vacillate their inner mind to you. That will obviously improve commanding your respect at work place! |

I feel if u are a good listner you understand well and you are respected for that. Forget about insult.

This is an age old practice in India. The folding of hands when one meets another and saying namaste speaks volumes about this aspect. In the west wishing good morning is the practice. |

Thanks,Diya for referral.Though i agree with you that one should observe maximum restraint at workplace,but even small efforts being made by workers should receive your applaud.This will go a long way in infusing the confidence of the workers and creating conducive climate around. |

do we need to demonstrate respect ?. this is something that comes from a honest heart - an act or demonstration is a formal lie to please people, for i dont know what ?. Best method is to be neutral, before going all judgemental, nobody is perfect, all are trying their best to coexist. Companies 'PAY' for ones commitment or loyalty to the job given, they expect one's understanding or tolerance to the provided work culture and its people. As long as there is harmony btw company and employee, the respect is well maintained, and perhaps will be rewarded. Never disrespect others, but also never lie to oneself. Be a good listener, but also open other ear to filter out bad statements or in other words hear good, see good, say good and finally be resourceful and inspire.

When you interact with people in workplace, connect with them by understanding their point of view and then putting forward your views. This will automatically connect. This is like "hand Shake" in electronic communication protocol. Once connection is established, mutual respect will naturally flow. |

Find out opportunities to appreciate others,ignore the mistakes they have done.Talk with them when they are alone about the impact of the mistake committed,make them understand how things should be done corretly. |

When in a business/corporate environment, always becareful how you address colleagues, employees, managers, users and comrades around you (e. g. toilet cleaner, cafeteria shop keeper, mail man, etc...). There are times when you will be highly stressed, faced with all sorts of problems that require urgent attention, always remeber to carry a smile on your face, which glows your face and address each problem in the most humble and simple way despite the severity of the problem(s). Use a suitable tone, not too aggressive, or loud but assertive if need be, always repect the views of others because in most cases, there views are valuable to note. Always have a sense of humour despite the condition or situation you are in. Show love to all, a big hug does the trick some time. |
