I have seen some queries coming in very regularly about job offers. Whena person gets job in two companies the first question coming to the mind is which one to join. So what are the parameters you keep in mind while evaluating the job offer?

Future scope of growth

idea posted by Diya Mehra Executive search, ABC consulting

Does the job osition offer you a good future growth? IF the answer is may be or no then it is useless to get into any such job. We all work for progress and if we cannot progress in a job it is of no use to have one.

I do agree with Raju. There can be more than one deciding factor. of them ,one may be primary and others secondary. Here ,I want to add the 'enfolding and enlarging' concept of personality.Enlargers are always concerned with their career growth.they sacrifise all other factors. For them career is of primary concern Enfolders are interested in other factor and which of them would be primary and which secondary depends on place and postion..

Fulfilment of one's needs

idea posted by Vikram Singh Software Developer, eClinicalWorks
All the points given above are important and relevant in every means but the ultimate thing is the satisfaction of the person in concern. If he is satisfied in a less paying job for say he gets time for his family and friends he might take that. So I feel that if you are getting what you needs the most, you should go for that. Whatever your priorities or needs may be

Very key point Vikram made. Work and Life style balance is key to considering a job offer. Beyond salary, job satisfaction will be directly proportional to personal benefits realized in off work hours.

Salary, Long term career growth and Corporate culture

idea posted by Mohan Murari Marketing Manager, Confidential

I think the above parameters should be considered when evaluating a job offer. Even if the compensation is a bit low than the desired, long term career growth should always be considered. A company should be employee friendly thus corporate culture is also important. Remember it may be easy to get a job but to get a good job is more vital.

The monetary compensation is not the main thing while evaluating a job offer. The corporate environment, the commute time, the co workers, and the personal and professional circumstances which led you to the job are important factors.

Thorough research on the company

idea posted by Sarada M Senior HR Generalist
To evaluate the financial stability of any company, log on to www.finance.google.com and view the company profile in terms of financial and market position. If two top companies offer the job and both are reasonably good, then think of the professional growth, the scope for higher prospects. There is a site called glassdoors.com which provides information about any company, of course, bad reviews too..One thing to remember before accepting the offer is to talk to the employees through network/contacts/friends/networking sites..The main factors before considering the job is to extensively search for the below information: 1. Growth 2. Good scope for learning 3. Talent development at all levels 4. Employee orientation 5. Market position etc.

You need to get what you really intend- Be it economical survival, enrichment; professional excellence; pursuit of knowledge; or to get over the unemployment stress.- in a job offer.

Many a company may offer fancy designations and salaries but one needs to check your upward growth in the organisation. There is no point working in an organisation paying a four fig salary but with no upward movement. Whats the use of staying put at the same level for 5 yrs or so before u get ur next promotion? Also u need to know the future prospects of the company whether they have reached a saturation in their field of operation etc.

ASCERTAIN THE BRIEF FACTS....

idea posted by Sairam. M System Administrator

OF COURSE SUCH SITUATION BAFFLES ONE TO TAKE DECISION ON THE SPUR OF THE MOMENT SINCE ITS ALL ABOUT FUTURE.

THE FIRST POINT IS, A CANDIDATE HAS TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO ASCERTAIN THE BRIEF FACTS OF A COMPANY WHERE HE/SHE HAS BEEN SELECTED. HE/SHE MUST BE AWARE OF THEIR REGULAR DEVELOPMENTS IN TERMS OF GROWTH, SALARY, AND SO ON.

I THINK THE ABOVE IS ENOUGH TO TAKE RIGHT DECISION AND BESIDES, AGREE WITH YOU AS WELL.

THANKS FOR THE INVITE.

First of all thanks to Diya to raise such a important question.. I am very much agree with Mr. KALIYA MOORTHY, he has explain in a far better way.. and my personal view is that we shall need to study the companies profile and growth [past & present] thoroughly and off course our job profile completely. Company culture and way off functioning is also important.

Evaluate the company

I would say the primary factor in evaluating a job offer is "Evaluation of the company and one's professional and personal circumstances". Future grwoth prospects will automatically be covered if the evaluation of the company is carried out properly.

Evaluate the company & your future plans &aspirations

idea posted by Sarwan Singh Freelancer, Management & Strategy Consulting
I think that before you really evaluate the job offer, you should evaluate yourself. You must ask yourself as to what are your aspirations, what are your short term & long term goals & where do you see yourself three to five years down the line. only after evaluating yourself evaluate the company as to whether you have reasonable chances of meeting these goals in the company which has made the offer.Otherwise either you will be a misfit in the company or you will feel let down in the company.

While looking for a new job, a person usually looks for three things- 1. Job satisfaction / Nature of job 2. Future growth prospects, and 3. Remuneration Job offer has to be evaluated on all three aspects. One should accept the offer only if he is satisfied with it on all three parameters.

Mileage

idea posted by AMISH Admin/Facilities Manager, VKVC
When you think of mileage you think of how far you can go. By this yard stick if you think of the distance you can travel higher up the hieracrhy, this company you would like to be a part of. And as growth is summation of your quest, you need to opt for the same. Note: Diya you seem to be arriving at Growth in both the options - future scope of growth and growth possibilities are the same... if you mean that hinderance by hierarchy as to growth possibilities, then it may be rephrased accordingly.

Does the company offer you what you are really looking for?

idea posted by Raju V P Senior Manager, an International Bank
I am not talking of compensation only. Some people want career growth, some want good compensation, some are seeking knowledge and some will be seeking posting in their hometown. It may be a combination of one or two of the above or some more. So it is really important to know what we really want and then evaluate the offer and the company against our set goals and objectives.

Thorough Research on the company

idea posted by AMISH Admin/Facilities Manager, VKVC
I believe that more you know about the company, the better it would be to adopt and work. Hence if you learn about the company where you would be likely to attend work, and during interview talk to people, would help collect a great deal about the company, their culture, its environment and people itself.

Priority

idea posted by AMISH Admin/Facilities Manager, VKVC
There are many factors involved while evaluating a job offer. Money, growth, environment, adapatability, culture, fulfillment, proximity ot ones house, knowledge, ease of service, comfort level, and son on one can go on and on defining the factors. But what your prioritize is what is most important. Jobs like all economic resources is a rational commodity, the more you rationalize the more you would want to be like a rolling stone. So important first Prioritize your factors while evaluating the job.
