Constructive is the word that should always be connected with criticism. Part of figuring out how to criticize a peer's work is learning how to frame criticisms in a way that is constructive, to deliver such words in a positive tone. Instead of crudely pointing out the mistakes, an open-ended question can be put. For instance, phrases like "Your idea is good, but what if you try this instead?" can be more effective. It's very important to choose words that are not provocative, so that the criticism nourishes the person's growth without destroying his roots. |

There can never be any progression without constructive criticism. An effective way of enhancing performace level is to cite instances of anonymous individuals with better practices which can improve the function of the individual. However, citing examples should not boil down to mere comparisons because that again is detrimental to an individual's self esteem. Thus, care should be taken while drawing instannces with no refernce to a peer or a competetor
It should be, according to me, constructive feed back every body will welcome such thing once the word criticism is there the negative mind set grips the actions. Thanks Joydeep foe referral.
Criticism is disproval, condemnation, there is another word feedback, (for smooth functioning of complex electronic circuit feedback is needed, where every component has discreet function).
Dishing out criticism whoso ever will get into trouble, 500 years ago it was the way of life.
- Constructive criticism sounds like give a tight slap and rub ice and salt. This is why government sector no work output, everyone is doing constructive criticism the workers from Union and management create unpopular policies results to work to rule. Price of petrol is Rs. 65/- a litre. Rs 33 is tax ( sales octroi cess etc)

Positive criticism to somebody means you are caring about him/her and this is an optimistic approach. It boosts oneself and others and increase confidence and conviction. But we should do it in person not in public. In public it can lead to negative results.

positive criticism always have the same impact of a friends advice.also the person should feel that it is opportunity for him to improve and excel rather than to take it as burden and scolding for him/her.

Any criticism, however constructively intended, will only have impact if it is balanced by praise or acknowledgement of an employees efforts. Only when we are liberal with the 'Good' can we effect improvement by pointing out the 'Bad'

If you can deliver criticism in a light-hearted manner, it will be received in a much more positive way. Humor doesn't diminish the seriousness of the feedback you are giving, it actually helps the person receiving the direction to open up and take it in.

This will help him or her to make the appropriate adjustments sooner rather than later. It will also strengthen your bond as a team. Making changes is easier if you have someone supporting you.

The context of this discussion is around critisising collegues or subordinates at work.
The first question then is what are legimate things that can be critisised ?
Performance, work related actions, nature & quality of communication & professional relationships. Things related to the performance of the persons duties can be critisised. The person, should not be critisised.
Not straying into areas of personal critisism should be a golden rule in my opinion.
If you are critisising actions you can approach the issue objectively. You can provide evidence. You can seek comments on the evidence as to its validity, accuracy or interpretation.
Without evidence or examples you have no grounds for critisism. With evidence & objective interpretation you can discuss remedies.

When you are doling out criticisim be it to peers or subordinates, ensure you also provide a logical solution to resolve the criticism. If it is directed towards a subordinate, ensure it is dished out in private. If it is to your peers quietly make your point and leave it to them to decide. Dont direct it against their ego rather sugar coat it. Dishing out criticism without a solution is like serving pasta without the accompanying sauces or gulab jamun without the sweetness.

Constructive criticism is "you." negative criticism is "me."
You use constructive criticism because you love some one and want them to grow.
You use negative criticism becasue you want to be right and them to be wrong.
Dealing with people who always criticize: -talk to them about it; lead by example. do to them what you want done to you.

As initiated and supported by Ken Blanchard, the Whale done approach encompasses a wider context wherever professional relationships are concerned - it could be peer-to-peer,manager-to-subordinate and subordinate-to-manager. The approach is premised on the following key steps: • Building Trust • Accentuating the Positive • Redirecting Energy when Mistakes Are Made |
