Using Keywords

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

According to me using simple, clear, and precise words to express or articulate your viewpoint is very important and one should focus on 3-4 keywords which will have a impact on the panel and build the sentences around those keywords, and one should be able to co-relate with those keywords, by doing this it will have an impression on the GD panel.

Solutions

Coming up with real life viable solutions. Especially for abstract topics, your ability to relate it to problems in the economy and your suggestion for a particular course of action to solve it will be most appreciated by the Group Discussion panel.

Who is the leader ?

idea posted by K. NARAYAN None, None

Dear Mr. Tarafdar ,

Since the candidates who are invited for the GD are those who have already crossed the initial hurdle of the written test , I think the following qualities are already common among all the persons participating in the GD :

1.  Intelligence

2.  General Knowledge

What the panel will now be looking for is :

a.  A good personality

b.  Leadership potential.

Both of these are tested by a GD.

How does a candidate interact with rivals who may be equally good ? Does he put them down , or does he try to win them over to his side ?

In case there are people who are not very articulate , how does he bring them out of their shell , so that they can also contribute ?

Does he try to brow beat others by speaking fast or loudly ? Does he try to take over other people's ideas as his own , or does he acknowledge their contributions ?

You need to be on your best behaviour to start with. But you should not be so subdued that your voice is lost ! You need to ensure that you stand out among the group , whether it is by virtue of your fresh ideas , or by your way of clear and articulate speed , or by your ability to get the others behind you.

Practice makes perfect , so if you have several GD sessions over several months prior to the actual thing , you should have no need to be nervous. Being nervous is something you cannot afford ! But being over-confident and brash will also not help your cause.
