Past elections shows that nearly half of the electorate don't cast vote. There might be various reasons for it. But we need to i mprove on it. So how can we improve the voting percentage. What can be done so that say 80%+ above electorate cast vote.

Educate them on the importance of voting

idea posted by Pragya Kothari Construction-Heavy, DLF

I think the best way to improve the number of citizens casting vote is by educating them. telling them the importance of voting. What can happen and will happen if they vote for the best candidate of their choice. How and in what ways it will impact or help them.

Voting is essential and every individual must vote. It is a social responsibility. People pass comments without participating in choosing right candidates. E voting is a concept and might come up in future , but unless people feel the responsibility to vote nothing can improve the percentage.

E-voting

idea posted by Naimish Construction-Heavy, Gourav Engineers

E - voting may can help us to increase the voting percentage, Beacause lots of peoples are working far away from their home due to business purpose or due to their job. It has been seen that lots of educated & highly educated peoples are not like to got to the polling booth , to stand in a queue for hours , so lots peoples are avoiding voting.E-voting can also help to increase quality votes & to elect a deserving candidate.I think that it will definately help to increase the voting.

This is very good idea

I fully support Evoting. The main reason for not voting is not present in the place where we have vote. I feel the voting percentage will increase substantially with the introduction of Evoting

I too prefer e-voting to be the choice for an increase in the participation.. BUT I am also very sure that the politicians will never let this happen as they are well aware that if e-voting is implemented, almost all the day's politicians will badly loose their deposits.  Re-elections after re-elections will happen!

E-voting certainly and with an auto locking once the vote has  been cast where the votes cannot be tempered.

I agree with Mr.Abhijit.If we want that more and more people should come out and vote in the elections then we need to spread awareness among them...specially the population living in rural areas...we need to make them realize the importance of their vote in bringing a change in this country.many initiatives have already been taken in spreading awareness but still seeing the % of voters coming out to vote in this elections....its preety low again...more such programs should be introduced so that we can educate them of their birth right i.e. to vote.

Add your argument:

Declare a Public Holiday

idea posted by Jay Makwana Media Development Manager, Times of Oman

Lot of people avoid to cast their votes because of work pressures...If a Public Holiday is declared there is a possibility that Voting % increases.

Top Management of all companies should check the fingers of their employees the next day and person who has not VOTED should give treat to all colleagues...make it a fun punishment so that no one dares NOT to VOTE!

CLEAN POLITICS n politicians

idea posted by C Nijagunaradhya Planning engineer, Aarvee associates

If the politics is clean and leaders are standing upto their responsibility, duties , promises made previously have been completed then definetly the PERCENTAGE will automatically increase.

But the expenditure of hidden black money is Increasing during campaigns and the percentage of Voters is decreasing simultaneously.

Unwanted FIGHTS by the leaders on the polling day itself and police men getting bribe in the stations....... All nonsense happens .

First CLEAN the existing garbage completely then we can decide, how and where to throw the upcoming garbage for future.

What i see the as the reason for reduced vote percentage is Corrupt Politicians whose acts are leading to ,people hesitating to opt politics as their career ,which is turning out to be disastrous for the Indian society  as the people have started considering it of no worth to vote ,as it hardly helps the cause .

Because in most of the cases ,none of the Contestants are qualified to contest ,having no vision in their minds.

I think their should be an option to select None.

Bad management

idea posted by Mangala Shetty Project coordinator

Its my own experienced that i went for vote but in register my name was missed.I wish to vote but i couldnt. Lots of people like me want to vote but because of bad mangement they cant. In city lots of citizen dont know the center of voting, exact address, when we received the slip of party member they should give the location map of the center so it will be easy to find.

Yes Mangala you are right here there was only 50% of voting that happened in the First phase in Major city like Bangalore and it was really bad management by the electoral process that there was a less percentage, people turned down to vote but there were names missing from the list, and due to that they couldn't vote..So these things should be given top priority, that everybody's name is on the list...

Add your argument:

By giving Security to voters

idea posted by Shravan Kumar Construction-Heavy, Sobha Developers

I think security is the major factor for which lots of voter don't come for vote. If good security is given to the voters at the time of election and 1month after election, people will come for vote without fear.

Right to vote and right to recall should given to all voters

idea posted by Priya Varadan Independent consultant, Self employed
Right to vote and right to recall non performing electected members should be available to all. This will enthuse voters to take part in the political process more actively. Right to recall: some b'live that in s large country like India, it is not finacially and logistically feasable to implement it. but I guess that's the right way to go.

We can not wait for things to get ideal and then we vote.

idea posted by Rajesh K Richhariya G.M., Sales & Marketing

I agree more or less with ideas posted here and feel that singular idea may not work. I agree with Ms.Kothari to educate, Mr.Shravan Kumar to give security, Mr. Mishra to make it compulsory and Naimish construction for e-voting. All these factors would add %, BUT

The bigger chunk of people who are not voting are from educated class with their own viewpoint for not voting which starts from "one must vote, I could not go this time" to "Who would waste time for useless people, there must be one more option as none of the above". It needs thorough evaluation.

E-Voting & voting certificate (to be made mandatory for every purpose for next five years) can help. Good people like Aamir Khan must come forward with appeal to vote, it does help. Some basic criteria & qualification for candidates must be revised and improved. And we also must understand that elections are for us to make a difference and make things better. We can not wait for things to get ideal and then we vote.

make it compulsory

idea posted by Swastik Mishra Production Planner, Flamingo Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Make voting compulsory fine-able under law. Under this a citizen must have a reason to not to vote. Whenever he decides to take a legal action against anyone he has to produce the voter card stating clearly that he has voted in all the elections and when he hasn't he has a reason for it. Even when breaking a minor traffic rule the officer has the right to ask him for his voter card to see whether he has voted. But yes he must have the right to choose none of the candidate.

punish the false campaigner when He/She fails!

idea posted by shersks Network Designer, TATA COMMUNICATIONS

''If a campaigner fails to deliver his commitments, He or She is punished''  if this is what law says, as a chain reaction more and more will believe in the democracy and trust that their vote matters and his opinion is valued. This will create an interest and have a word by mouth marketing which by self becomes an awareness programme!!

Online voting will for sure have a good response, but has many years to go and many uninterested heads to nod!!

wat's ur say ?

idea posted by Rushikesh durge student of centre for studies of rural development,Institute of Social Work & Research, Ahmednagar, maharashtra

Gov. should not taking this matter seriously. In other develop country voting percentage almost 80 to 90% in each governace system.Indian people not wory about this, many time we see that educated people also not use voting right.

Gov. should pass one provision that if person not participte in election process, he/she does not eligible to gov job,gov facilities.
