Media now a days is more for "Hot", "Breaking News" and other non-responsible activities which are at the best inform people of the situation in a region; and at the worse may instigate wars, personal grudges in people and other unwanted attention to unwilling people.

Please comment and give ideas to solve this menace and make Media, which includes all mediums of communication of information to the people, for the people and by the people, truly for the people.

Rise flags when they do mistakes

idea posted by Disha Roy Lecturer, St Xaviers College

Normally we don't do anything when media does any mistake. We believe whatever they tell us is true. And the media are taking advantage of it. The are giving us many fake and unreal news.

So we should start protesting their mistakes which will make them to be more responsible. People should always have an eye on media, which will make them realize that they are watched by someone.

Yeah your Idea is good, but telling an idea is not enough in india, we have to get a perfect plan, a set of steps to implement the same.

Note: I think the following methods can work, if i am wrong please mention it so that we can improve the idea and at the same time each others knowledge.

By flagging the Media, when they have done something bad or encouraging, when they did something responsible can be done by the following actions:

1) By Submitting a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) Describing the responsibilities of media and the corresponding Punishment*/Salvation System for the crimes performed by Media.

2) Government should subsidies regularly towards the Media, so that they can present knowledge enabling and other good material as there will be no money problems and incentives when they perform well, the whole process should be looked upon by regular Audits and other End User Ratings of literate people. Govt should create more opportunities to enable people to actively participate in Media Affairs and finally govt. shouldn't bind the media. There should be a two way handshake between the Media and Public at large who are watching the media. i) Media should make efforts to know what people really want to see as their moral responsibility, and ii) People should make their 'Right to Media' Content to decide what they want.

3) individuals who are really interested in Responsible media should come forth and open channels for good viewer-ship and not for good TRP rating. the funding this type should be the govt. responsibility.

Note: All this suggestions are to improve the media, we cant go back and undo what media has done. so lets be reasonable and responsible to achieve a responsible country.

Punishing and Sacking will only hurt our people, it may help the situation but it wont help the person who loses the job.

Neglect Media

idea posted by kiran pandya Zonal Manager, Piccolo Mosaic Ltd

Stop watching 24 hr news channel & stop reading news paper in details.

Just glance at the headlines. I have been practicing it for the past 6 months & i am very happy.Instead watch some comedy programs and play some games, go for a walk and talk to friends.

Media is under a wrong impression that people are enjoying their stupid stories & are repeating them 10 times in 10 minutes & than repeating those 10 minutes 24 times.

wage a e-mail war on media asking all your friends not to give them importance. write to all channels & news papers to either improve or perish.

Send SMS to friends not to watch news & read detail stories. Ask the media themselves to cover such stories. Lets see how many of them want to be the first to cover up such stories.

Organise public debates on such topics where we common people challenge the media stalwarts on their homeground.

But, till that happens save on your quality time...All the Best

I came across an interesting quote from Cowper:

'Newspaper -- Here comes the herald of a noisy world, filthy news from all nations lumbering at its back, front & inside pages, a messenger of grief to thousands and joy to none.'

What i propose is Media personnel should be made to inculcate Responsible Communication to the people from the start of their career.

A people Feedback is a necessary and important instrument for the Aired Media.

I agree with Mr Sri Krishna, Media should take people feedback and apply them as many a times media people do cross their limits.

Rules And Deterrence

idea posted by Ramesh Babu Head/VP/GM- Purchase/Material Mgmt Retired

As in everything else in society there is a need for rules and punishment for breaking them. For example, no authenticated news should be broadcast or printed; no unnecessary sensationilisation;curb on news items which can create law and order problem; objectivity and no subjectivity; etc ,etc.

HI DISHA.IN OUR COUNTRY ONLY PENALTIES AND PUNISHMENTS WORK.THE SIMPLEST WAY IS TO PUNISH A FEW ERRING NEWSPAPERS,/CHANNELS.THEY WILL EXERCISE ABUNDANT CAUTION.

TRain them in values and ethics

idea posted by Rajesh Yerra Sales Executive/Officer, GRT Hotels & Resorts

It seems to be that for the sake of TRP and other viewer related points, news channels are adopting umwanted methods of attraction. This should be arrested by the ministry of information and broadcasting itself.

If they are committing any mistakes, this should be riverted directly to them thru their channel

create constitusion & law strong

idea posted by Rushikesh durge student of centre for studies of rural development,Institute of Social Work & Research, Ahmednagar, maharashtra

media is a source of news & knowldege. people believes there news & opinion and follow that prespective.therefore media should know there roles & responcibility. constitusion suggests a relation between one having a moral or legal obligation and a court or other authority charged with oversight of its observance

Economics - Make the viewers more aware than they are right now

idea posted by Aniruddha Gargya Tech Architect, InSync Information System (P) Ltd.
Media shows what sells, after all they have commercial interest at mind. They sell what majority want to see, something which would put color back in life, a little bit of "Entertainment", this definition is open to interpretation and that is where trouble starts. I would agree with most, make laws more stringent, but that is a short term solution, it may harm more than do good. We should look at a longer term perspective and eliminate the need for these "Entertainment" definitions. If no one will want to watch "funny stuff", no one will want to show "funny stuff" and lose their adv. revenue.

The media sector has become glamarized and now a days they are not doing there job as expected. they are devided in political loby and working for the benifit of those who are using them as a tool to advertise their needs. We need people like Ram nath Goenka who always took side of real journalisim and put his paper behind people to rise their concern.

Today even they are salling death with glamour. We need people who are really bother about country and her development, we need those who can stand and rise voice for betterment in all sector coming out from the parties of wine and dine organised by those who want to use them

Those who understand media are well aware that when there is no news, media creates it and when there is news it grabs .Presenting the news in the format which people likes it is the success story of the media. However, i agree that media must stop to sensationalize the news.As a matter of  fact two unknown quantity i.e. news and media are in loggerheads to compete each other.

ask media to be social

idea posted by Dr. Rituparna Deshmukh Head/VP/GM-Marketing, DAPIC laboratory

to make media responsible, media should be learn basic social issues first. it is like that start from the basic for what media is basically made for. raising the social issues will make them much more responsible. business mind should be replaced by the socialism and secularism.

Audio-visual Media ? They change .. in minutes .. Ignore

idea posted by ASOKE KUSARI Domestic Private Banking-Executive/Manager, A large leading PSU Bank - India

The Print_media is more serious/ responsible  as the prints are in black and white. They, in some cases, admits mistakes in their news ( but never for items in the Edetorials or in the edetorial_pages ).

This is more justfied that the printMedia may be treated as Fourth-estate.

But ...  audio_visual Media ... ? Most horrible. This type of Media is just "Irresponsible". Who cares to video-tape all items aired by them ... possible ? This aspect has made them even "reckless".

We are to just ignore them - let them destroy their credibility ( till a major shake-up is happening ).

Filtering or restricting Media means to an action of curtailing freedom of speech(reporting). So, present reader/viewer need to sharpen his IQ to understand the reporting. To be able to analyse it from the source, the time of origin, the originator credibility with gerneral opinion of the population.

Media behaviour is subjective where each situation is to be treated differently. It is not possible to set an education standard for their business. The only option would be to address concerns as and when they arise.
