Slacers are those who frequently avoid work.... and give many reasons of not performing the work. The entire workplace gets affected by employees who belong to this category.

Thus how to make these employees to perform?

The company needs to properly monitor its employees and find out the faults. Any employee who is showing attitude of escaping the work need to be guided and warned if the reasons are not genuine.

Everyone is irritated about slackers, and slackers too irritate others, as they don’t have focus, or malicious useless thought (conversation) running within.Their minds wander around. They vitiate the environment.

This is my observation, we do what ever works.

Government organizations are a safe haven for slackers, in this part of the world, or if the person has some political connection (nexus).

It has to be a combination of factors mentioned by fellow experts earlier and some other similar steps... Let us understand slackers are "slackers clearly by choice"... hence they either lack motivation or will (to learn and/or to perform) or skill (which they are either unable to identify or unable to develop) or a combination of all these factors... identify the same and confront it with a solutions approach (such as a strong perf mgmt sys, constant monitoring, hand-holding them thru their work-day, roll ur sleeves up n work with them and so on and so forth)... Fit the Right Person in the Right Job.

Most people start with a promising beginning but slowly lose interest in work as they are not happy in doing what they are asked to do or their efforts are not recognized. It is the duty of the immediate boss to read the mindset, interests and capabilities of persons below him and allocate or distribute tasks accordingly. It is easy these days in Pvt organizations to declare a person as slack and remove him but in Govt. depts. it is not easy to remove persons. If the bosses are not able to position the people rightly the work suffers and there a;so the bosses are accountable. There may be no sacking but the carriers are at stake. Govt. officals therefore regularly make changes in their work distribution to the advantage of both.

I totally agree! Definition of work- Delegation of Job- these are the driving factors to activate the loose/dead ends of a company's man power.

But then, "Slacking around" is sometimes backed-up by its horrible descendants- "Excusionism" and "Escapism". So, if Definition and Delegation don't work, Deletion is the answer!

They are there in good numbers  in almost all our sarkari offices.

Nothing can be done.

They can neither be reformed nor be punished.

In fact, the system in vogue

nourishes, nurtures and PROTECTS them.

The one who attempts to change is  FRUSTRATED ultimately.

I think by implementing Performance Evaluation System , We make slackers to perform.After evaluation we know what is the route cause for slackness then we are able to cure problem properly.

Each of the non performer can be studied and the defect in them can be found and also what makes them poor performers. Then they can be motivated in such a way that them perform.

The evaluation helps not only us but also the slackers themselves since they are constantly reminded of their own shortcomings and can work in order to eliminate them.
