If you are not happy with your Job don't lay the blame solely on your Job. A Job is just a part of your4 life - perhaps 40 - 50 hours per week - but their are so many other influences. Your Quality of Sleep and Recreation, Family Ties, Sport, Studies, Personal Relationships. Identify the Real Causes(s) and you may find that the Job becomes more enjoyable. If possible depending on Economic Factors don't stay in a Job that you don't like. Make meaningful changes to all areas of your life that prove to be suspect.

There will be considerable differences between Countries, Ethnic Communities, Economic Factors and Employment Options so Flexibility and the broadening of your Qualifications, Skill Base is essential to cater for those differing circumstances. For example - New Zealand has traditionally (but not always) enjoyed a Low Rate of Unemployment so that Employees could leave one Job and expect to find another in a short period. The recent World Economic Crisis has impacted on that. The result is that Middle Management Executives used to High Salaries, Benefits, The Company Car etc., have actually had to find Employment in other fieldsand adapt quickly. High Income Sales and Marketing People have found themselves running a Coffee Bar, becoming a Farm Worker, Taxi Driver etc. Complacency in your Employment is a dangerous State of Mind. No matter how indispensable you may think you can make yourself to your Employer - Economic Factors will always dictate. The ongoing acquisition of New Qualifications, Skills and Experience is essential. Your perception of how valuable, indispensable you are to your Employer may not necessarily match that of either your Employer or your Fellow Employee's and keep in mind that the older you get the more your value to the Employer diminishes.

Balancing will keep one healthy and stable but not indispensable. Proving yourself, will make you confident, that's all. The only way to become indispensable is by keeping up with the future demands, which is practically impossible, because age will definitely fail us. There is an alternative, if you can innovate, inspire or lead, people will follow you and will consider you as a valuable asset of the society (like the elders). They will remember your contributions even after your absence. So virtually you will remain indispensable.

View your department as a separate company. Consider your actions as if you were president of your company. Look at the balance sheet on every decision you make. Will the decision be seen as an asset or liability? Try to always see the bigger picture. |

Office Etiquette or Office Manners is about conducting yourself respectfully and courteously in the office or workplace I have noticed that as we go from college to the real corporate world it is hard to get used to a different environment.... |
