Create your own USP

idea posted by Kriti Das HR Manager, ANZ Information Technology

Successful businesses win customers by developing a unique selling proposition. To give yourself a competitive advantage, analyse what other employees in your field are offering. It is not enough to emulate them; you must strive to differentiate yourself by offering something extra, something unique.

everyone has its own USP, he/she may or may not be aware about that. First step is to find out own strength and weakness with some other factors like http://managementinsights.wordpress.com/

Absulotely spot on. Our career is our business and we own it as a sole propreitor. My business has one employee, me. I am in competition with millions of similar businesses i.e millions of other employees who think similarly and manage their career as would a business.

When I look at my career as my business, it becomes my responsibility to protect, grow and nurture it and stay a step ahead of competition at all times. Just as businesses look at Operational excellence for leadership in their respective areas, I would look at my USP, Quality of my work philosophy, innovation @ work, new skill development.

In order to be operationally excellent(always current in my chosen field), I need to be at the top of each one of the attributes listed above. Just as the PDCA cycle is importnt in any business, OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide & Act) assumes a position of paramount importance when it comes to managing my career!

Kriti I agree with you on the subject. It is not easy to create an USP about self so one should plan the way how to create an USP for self and go ahead of others in career plan.Since every body is so engrossed with the work profile do not bother to create an USP regarding their their their job profile.

Identify yourself

idea posted by Jenifer joncy MBA student, Christ College Institute of Management

Look upon yourself as a company with a product or service to sell. Understand your market and devise a marketing campaign, remembering that companies hire employees who offer them the best results and the best value for money.

Begin by identifying your skills, qualifications, and accomplishments. Adopt a customer-focussed approach. What benefits and results can you offer employers? Are your skills marketable and up-to-date?

Follow PDCA

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

LIKE WHAT WE DO IN BUSINESS, IN CAREER MANAGEMENT ALSO, Follow PDCA (Plan, Do, Check & Act). Using this in cycle, and assess it, periodically, to evaluate the career performance, one can manage in better way.

Upgrade Yourself

idea posted by Suryanarayan Murthy Free lancer
Update and upgrade yourself with the latest trends/knowledge/developments. Never look upon yourself as a product. When companies are looking for professionls, get ready to give them the quality they need. Who will by an obsolete product, even if it is well packed.. and which marketing expert can sell such a product ?

Two things are different. Dont mix Them.

idea posted by Nitin Mehra Writer, Thinker, Technology Seekar
Well We can't mix them together.Career and Business are two different thing. How can we treat the rectangle like a circle. Career can be built in the business and also in the job. but We cant treat the career like the business where different attribute are required. There can be too general things that we can do with ever where like planning. We can do planning to make career, for a business, or for a child future. planning is a general term but the attribute of the planing will be different for career and business. So i think Just go deep in the topic and treat each other as different thing.
