I have been asked to come up with some ideas on how to measure its success/value. Anyone can offer me some ideas on simple measurements that I could implement.

Project Scorecard

idea posted by Ashutosh Kumar Srivastava Team Lead, Wipro
I could say when you're trying to objectively measure the success of your project, it's imperative that you have good targets in place. Many organizations have a hard time determining whether their projects are successful or not. One of the best ways to determine project success is to define a project scorecard before the project starts. The project scorecard identifies a set of metrics and targets that will help to quantifiably state whether the project was a success.

For large/long duration projects a project score-card with mid-term reviews helps keep the target in sight, milestones in vision, scope & cost under control.

I guess this is the basic concept followed by most of them......ie.By analuzing Strength,Weakness,Opportunities,Threats u can measure Project Success or Value.........

I agree with Mr. Praveen. The best way to know the success of a project is to do its SWOT analysis

Hi,

Have a Monitoring and Evaluation team/professional to measure achievemnets, find the lacunae and the challanges to be addressed with an urgency. You can also get before/mid-erm and end-term evaluation reports for your project.

Earned Value (EVA)

idea posted by Hitesh Thakkar Project Manager, Sun Microsystems India

It is observed that, EVA is better benchmark which is prevailing as best practices across IT industry to measure the project success.

But again, organisation need to have supporting process, tools and pepole to go for it.

I read in Annual report of TCS that they have target to adopt it across the board - which is very big step.

Developing

idea posted by Krishnan M R Team Lead, Infosys
We are working towards developing more, but here's what we've come up with for now: response time - measuring how quickly we address a risk/issue once it's been escalated to the Program, of risks/issues being tracked, closure time how quickly do issues get resolved, earned value of each of the programs and benefits identified in the business case(s) are tracked for one year once a program is implemented

Explicit Target

idea posted by Bhushan Patil Project Lead, Birlasoft Limited
I think there is explicit target like for instance the collection of actual effort, duration, and cost information is used to compare against the estimated effort, duration, and cost that you calculated before the project started. it also include things like costs savings that you are trying to achieve, responding to user requests within two business days, or building your deliverables to a stated level of quality
